Rain - Kun

The school's rooftop - my favorite place to spend break time. The spot to eat my lunch, the spot to just enjoy the sight of the cloudless blue sky, and the sounds of gushing wind. If it rains, then I will opt to find shelter in a tiny storeroom at the rooftop too. Oh, but it's summer so I don't need to worry about the rain as of now.

"Ask your mom to pack me lunch everytime you bring yaki udon. She always makes it sooo good!" Yuta inserts his chopsticks into his mouth with admiration of my mom's cooking. Oh, don't worry, he's not my boyfriend. He's my cousin and we go to the same school. My white-haired cousin always follows me wherever I go, including during breaks. However, when he has basketball practices, I will return home first.

"Stop stealing my food! Go buy some yaki udon from the canteen instead, you idiot!" I pull my lunchbox away from him and continue eating my lunch. "Maybe if you learn how to cook this yaki udon from your mom, you can attract Kun's attention. You know that some people said that a boy might fall in love with a girl if that girl can cook delicious food, don't you think so?" Yuta said as he began eating his sandwich.

Kun is Yuta's classmate and yes, I've been developing a long-term crush on him. I've been telling Yuta not to tell Kun about my feelings and just kept it a secret.

Kun and I first met during the opening ceremony. I woke up late that day and on my way to school, it started to rain. To make things worse, I rode a bicycle and my tyres flattened. I didn't know what to do and was on the verge of crying.

Until a boy came to my rescue.

I immediately noticed that we went to the same school as we wore similar school uniforms. Luckily, that boy named Kun had an uncle who had a repair shop nearby. I left my bicycle there and he offered to walk to school together. We shared an umbrella. From that time on, I regarded him as my 'saviour'.

My feelings for him grew as time passes by because he is the top scorer at school, he plays all kinds of sports well, he can draw, he can play the violin - yes, he's your all-in-one kindhearted school idol guy.

And because of the reasons stated above too, I'm in no place to be near Kun. I'm just your ordinary high school girl with average scores who's poor in Sports, and a mediocre in Arts and Music. There are more girls who are of course, better than me, who want to be near Kun, are already near Kun, and deserve to be with Kun.

"Just shut up and finish your sandwich or else I won't tell my mom to make Yaki Udon for you," I reprimanded Yuta.

"I'm just joking. Chill, sis," he embraced me, in which I immediately shoved away his hands. "This sis really can't chill, huh? She's only tiny in front of Kun. Hahaha."

I responded Yuta teasing me with a pout.

"By the way, today I will have a basketball practice so you can go home first," he said as he took the last bite of his sandwich. "Okay."

"Do you bring your bike to school today?" he asked. "No. I took the subway."

"Be careful on your way home," he reminded me. Duh, it's not like today is the first time I'm taking the subway. "Alrighty, Mr. Yuta Nakamoto."

Oh. My. God.

WHY IS IT RAINING DURING SUMMER? I didn't bring my umbrella to school today! What's worse is that all of my friends have gone home. I just finished today's private extra lesson for English as I am the worst of the batch so my teacher decided to give me a private EXTRA class. Urgh. Guess I'll need to wait for Yuta.

"Not going home yet?"

I heard a familiar voice. I raise my head and my heart begins to beat faster.

"I can't. It's raining. How about you, Kun?"

"I am about to go home. I've just finished the students' council meeting. Will you go home with your boyfriend then?"

Wait. What?

"Boyfriend? What do you mean? I don't have a boyfriend."

"Huh? Isn't Yuta Nakamoto your boyfriend? He's always with you in every occasion," voiced Kun while letting out a grin.

"I think you've misunderstood. He's my cousin. My mom and his mom are sisters."

"REALLY?" Kun was shocked, it was evident from the expression on his face but I can hear a hint of excitement from how he said that word before.

I nodded.

"Then, do you want to go home with me? We can share this umbrella like how we did on the first day of school."

Now, it's my turn to be shocked. He still remembered that day? I smiled and immediately blurted out a YES from my mouth.

We have arrived in front of my house and the rain has stopped. "So this is where you live. It's not that far from my house. I only live about 7 minutes away from here."

"Yes, Kun. Thank you for sending me home today."

Kun nodded with a smile. For a moment, there is an awkwardness between us. I don't want to enter and Kun doesn't seem want to leave.

"By the way, Elena, can we walk to school together tomorrow? And if you don't mind, maybe we can go home together too everyday," Kun blushed as he said those words.

Me? Of course I'm blushing too! I don't need to think twice.

"Yes, Kun. I'd be glad to!"
