"I saw you on a Sunday in a café, and all you did was look my way, and my heart started to race. and my hands started to shake, yeah" - Nervous, Shawn Mendes
Shawn was already singing the third song and Mason still didn't know what to do. Should he try a pick up line? Should he just give her a card with his number? Offer to buy her something?
How the hell did people do this everyday???
"OH for God's Sake. Make a MOVE Mase!" his sister exclaimed from beside him. "Stop being stupid!"
Mason frowned at Becca. He took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah, I will as soon as this song ends. "
Becca narrowed her eyes, giving him a silent look to not back down. Geez. His kid sister was pressuring him now.
"I get a little bit nervous around ya, I get a little bit stressed out when I think about you, get a little excited..."
Meanwhile, on stage, Shawn Mendes seemed to be having a lot of fun. He had a blue guitar out, which seemed to be custom made. The girls around Mason had screamed when the singer had brought it out.
Mason could admit it. The guy really knew how to work the crowd. He would stop every so often and raise his microphone to the air, encouraging everyone to sing along. Which they were doing already but they would just scream even louder then. 15,000 people were going to go home with hoarse voices tonight.
Plus, Mason also had to give Shawn kudos for being secure in himself. Not many guys were willing to put flowers as their album covers and flowers as a main thematic component of their tour. From what Becca told him, Shawn had stated he was a bit more feminine than his male peers but as far as Mason was concerned, that was cool and the dude was chill. He seemed like a good friend to have. Good with the ladies, and kind. There was also the fact that he was relieved that Becca didn't like one of those asshole singers.
The 20 year old had constantly told his kid sister that "macho" is not a thing. He warned her off people and not just because he was her older brother -- okay maybe it really was because he was her older brother, but really who could blame him? Mason had been around way too many jerks to allow Becca to date one. A lot of them were in his social circles too.
"LET ME HEAR YOU SAY YEAH." Shawn said into the microphone. "YEAH!" the crowd responded enthusiastically. "I WANNA HEAR YOU SAY YEAH. LET ME HEAR YOU SAY YEAAAHHH. I WANNA HEAR YOU SAY YEAHHH." the singer went, giving necessary pauses each time. The dude was also raising the notes. Impressive.
"LET ME HEAR YOU SAY YEAH. I WANNA HEAR YOU SAY YEAH! SAY YEAH! YEAH!" Shawn was belting out high notes now. At Shawn's final, extremely high-note "AAHH" the crowd screamed. Mason really should've bought those earplugs.
Also, as a side note, teenage girls had a lot of power in their lungs. Like a LOT.
"Talk a little too much around you (I talk a little too much, yeah), get a little self-conscious (I get a little self-conscious), when I think about you"
Mason swallowed as he realized the song was coming to an end. Time to go and ask a girl out. After taking a deep breath, he approached the girl. "Hi, I know this is really weird but you're super pretty and I really wanted a chance to get to know you and do you think that we could go for coffee or something sometime? Oh my name's Mason by the way." he blabbed to the girl who was grinning at him in amusement.
She laughed softly. "Well, sure I'd love some coffee. I'm Leanne Grace. Most people just call me Leah though. You got a last name Mason?" she inquired.
"Err, yeah sorry. Thomas. Mason Thomas." Mason said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Well nice to meet you Mason Thomas." Leanne smiled at him and held out her hand for him to shake. Sighing in relief, Mason shook it.
Hey, at least now he had asked her out and the girl had said yes. AND he knew her name! Progress.
