I've decided on writing Shawn!! Mostly because I wanted to try writing Shawn-Maya father/daughter moments :D
Also, there's a reference(s) to "Girl Meets Home for the Holidays" and "Girl Meets Goodbye"

After Angela left him for Europe and her father, Shawn Hunter believed he'd never truly be happy. If he really thinks about it, this is something he's come to believe for his whole life. It's just something he's come to accept, destined to be the unofficial third wheel in Cory and Topanga's relationship. The feeling only increased after the birth of their daughter, Riley. That same day he packed up his bags and left, working as a travel writer for "Hit the Road" ever since. He's not that heartless, he does love Riley, how could he not? Plus, he has gone back for the occasional visit over the years. The main purpose being to assure Cory that he was still alive, and if he'd been subconsciously avoiding Riley and Auggie because it reminded him of what he didn't have? Well nobody has noticed so far...
Until Shawn was introduced to Maya Hart...
The first time he met her he'd been absolutely stunned. This tiny blonde girl dressed in ripped blue jeans, heeled boots, a red and black band tee, and camouflage jacket walks up to Cory and him, demanding their attention just by standing there. Her general demeanour kind of reminded him of Topanga when they were their age, especially with the way she spoke, intimidating Cory in the process. To be honest he was also a bit impressed with how much Riley and Maya were like him and Shawn. Until they pulled out that whole "mind-reading" thing... which he's still not sure if they rehearsed it or they're just that much in sync.
However it was the look in her eyes that truly impressed him. It told Shawn of the loyalty she holds for the girl beside her; and if he's not mistaken his 'niece' feels exactly the same way.
It wasn't until later, when Riley traps him and Cory in the bay window (he's still a little disappointed in Cory for that, like c'mon man didn't Shawn teach him better than that?) that he understands why Maya was so determined to get Shawn to see how Riley saw him. A vulnerable look had appeared in those determined blue eyes as she told him about her "half-a-mom", and his heart practically broke when he learned her father walked out on her just to get another family. That's when he understood what to do next, it was like the universe was telling him, "Make sure she knows she's loved. save her from the same fate."
Which is why he invited her on the Columbia County trip upstate, making sure it looked like Riley was inviting her. That should have been his first hint that something was between those two. Not to mention the looks he'd seen them throwing each other when the other wasn't looking... suddenly this is looking incredibly familiar to Shawn...
Hell, he still remembers that talk with Cory and Topanga after the trip.

The first thing Shawn did once they all returned was head straight for Cory and Topanga. Auggie was "kidnapped" by this little blonde girl who practically appeared out of nowhere, and Josh left to return to Philadelphia. Riley and Maya disappeared from sight after rounding the corner of the building, he wasn't sure why; until he remembered something about how the bay window was their special spot. So the Hunter wasn't too worried about them.
"I just spent an entire weekend with a mini Cory and Topanga," he exclaimed after walking into the Matthews apartment. His curly-headed best friend to him, "Why whatever do you mean Shawnie?" He inquired in that that goofy tone of his. Next to him at the head of the table, Topanga merely rolled her eyes with a fond expression on her face. The blonde woman waved a hand at the bench beside her. Once he had sat down and made himself comfortable she asked him, "So how was the trip Shawn?"
