I slept the entire flight. It was only around three hours long but considering I didn't go to sleep until like 1AM I was tired. Thankfully Sarai and Marty realized I needed sleep so they didn't bother me at all.My team took up half the plane. And they were pretty rowdy- I felt bad for the other people on the flight who were trying to sleep. We had left around 8AM and landed in San Antonio around 11AM.
If it wasn't for Marty I would have slept through everyone boarding off the plane.
"Angie. Angieee." A distant voice called my name. Ugh, I want to sleep more. "Ang!!! Get up your dumb self up, we've landed dude!" Someone shook my right shoulder.
I grumbled. "Need.. more... sleep."
"Fine if you want to stay on the plane, stay. It's returning to Virginia anyway." Marty stated.
That woke me up. My eyes shot open and I squinted at my annoying friend. Slowly getting up and stretching real good, I grabbed my backpack from the overhang and proceeded to be the last person off the plane.
"Fierro seems to want to be the caboose today." Coach McMasters laughed as he finished counting heads to make sure the team was all here. I yawned and lazily smiled at him in response.
The group formed a circle around McMasters, with Coach Taylor on the phone with our transportation.
"Well y'all, welcome to San Antonio! I know you guys are hungry after that God awful plane breakfast so I ordered Tony's Pizza ahead so that by the time we get to the cabins it'll be waiting for us." Everyone cheered and began picking up their bags to head out of the airport.
"Wait, when do we find out our rooms?" Someone called out.
"Oh right, thank you Meghan for reminding me. Let's do that now- since the rooming situation is kind of weird I will quickly explain where everyone is staying. The first house will have my room, Coach Taylor's room, and..." I blanked out. I scanned the airport around us. I spotted a Starbucks that I desperately wanted to go get a refresher from.
I felt an elbow poke me in the rib. Sarai shook her head no, quietly laughing as she could see the longing in my eyes. I rolled my eyes at her. Forcing my eyes away from the Starbucks I continued to scan the area.
Woah... he looks like a grape.
The boy my eyes had landed on had his back facing me. All I could see was his white bucket hat with dark hair poking from underneath. He was wearing a bright purple sweatshirt with matching, baggy sweatpants and white chunky shoes.
"Guys look at that kid! He's a literal grape." I motioned for Sarai and Marty to look in the direction of the dude who was looking at the airport directory.
He turned around just as we were looking at him.Oh frick! All three of us averted our eyes, nervously looking anywhere but him to make it seem like we weren't totally staring at him.
"Um, he's walking over here..?" Marty scratched his head as he quickly looked at the kid who was headed in our direction, his eyes on what seemed to be us specifically.
"Angie, you seeing what I'm seeing?" Sarai turned her back to the kid, her face blocking him from my view. Confused I looked over her shoulder.
Blue hair? Please tell me that's not the douche from yesterday!
"What are the odds, haha." I chuckled, shaking my head. "I'm sure it's not the same guy from yesterday, I mean seriously, it would be like he's following us or something." Just as I finished my sentence, the boy stopped in front of us.
"Hey.. I noticed your shirts. Are you guys an All Star dance team?" He pointed at our shirts that had the All Star Dance Program logo on them with our team's logo, a grenade.
Marty answered him enthusiastically, "Yeah man! We're here for our dance camp to get ready for nationals." He looked between us and the boy, smiling sort of childishly.
The boy looked sort of surprised for a second, "Oh for real? That's dope, cause I'm here for the exact same reason.. I'm on an All Star team too." He lifted up his sweatshirt to reveal his teams logo- angel wings.
Me and Sarai shared a look. He was on the All Star Angels team- basically our teams strongest rival. He obviously knew who we were too.
Making sure no one else of our team was seeing our little interaction, I turned to the boy.
"Oh, the Angels huh? Where's the rest of your team?"
When his eyes caught mine I swore my heart skipped a beat. Why does he seem so familiar? There's a scar on his left eyebrow that I've definitely seen before.
He answered cooly, putting his hands into his pockets, "They're already where we're staying. I missed our flight actually, so I came late."
We all nodded. It got sort of quiet as no one knew what else to say but thankfully Coach McMasters called for us to leave.
Before any of us could say bye to the boy he nodded and swiftly turned around and headed in the opposite direction.
"Well, that was kind of weird. He was really cute though." Sarai linked her arm with mine and all three of us followed our team out of the airport.
I was deep in thought. I couldn't shake the fact that I felt like I've met him before. But where could have we met? There's no way he's from Virginia, especially since the Angels are from Florida.
"Angie are you good? You look pensive." Marty shot me a look of slight concern. I shook my head, "Yeah I'm okay.. just was thinking about something. Are you guys ready for this pizza? I'm freaking starving."
Distracting them from myself we all climbed onto the charter bus waiting for the team and headed to Camp Tres Casas (Camp Three Houses), the cabins we would be staying at for the next 8 weeks.
Once all of us were seated, Coach Taylor stood up while the bus began moving.
"One more thing McMasters forgot to mention to y'all... it may be a bit shocking but we think it's a great opportunity." She grinned at us before proceeding.
"Another All Star team will be staying in the remainder of the rooms that aren't occupied by us. I personally know the coaches and so I hope that you all will treat the other team respectfully."
Immediately the bus was filled with whispers about who the other team could possibly be.
"Alright, alright quiet down guys. Anyway, they've been at the camp since 10AM and so when we get there, please, go straight to your rooms and try not to go scout the other team. We're all here to practice and have fun." She shot us all a pointed look and sat down, the bus once again filling up with excited whispers.
"Well this should be fun. I wonder who the other team is, I hope there's some cute girls on their team." Marty said as he put his hands behind his head.
I was looking outside the window, not really caring about the news. Watching cars, stores, and trees pass by us, I realized something.
Quickly turning my head towards my friends, "Sarai, Marty... what if the other team are the Angels..?"
