Chapter One: Not Real
There was no way this man could possibly exist in reality, being a Shifter or not this man was in no way real.....
Slowly she allows her eyes to drift open from the scrunched up facial expression that made her look a little on the crazy side. This was so embarrassing for Sam and she really did not want to have to explain to this total stranger that she'd been dreaming of him just last night and that's why she found herself on the floor covered in coffee. "Oh yeah, that'll go over real nice, Samantha," she thought to herself for a moment rising to her feet. Her silvery irises cast toward the lines in the floor, cheeks on fire from her fallout, shaking the dark hot liquid from her hands and sprinkling the walls and this stranger with it.
"I am so so so sorry," was all she could repeat to him, panicking in her head about what she was to wear to work now. "I didn't know you were standing outside my door, sir." Her voice soft with a sharp edge to it as she wrings out the bottom edge of her blouse, she thinks to herself "Way to go, Sammy... blame it on him."
Instead of being in the same state of mind as her a deep chuckle greets her ears causing Samantha to have to fight herself to look at him. She didn't want to look at him and be captured in those beautiful blue green steely eyes she knew all to well from the images that haunt her nightly adventures. "Sorry about that, miss, was just looking into this apartment here. If I move in I'll make sure not to be in front of your door anymore."
Though his voice was playful and welcoming he didn't make any moves to assist her in getting off the floor or assisting in her sad attempt at cleaning up the puddle with her pant leg. He just leaned back against the wall across from her, his long legs crossed at the ankles, just one of those broad strong shoulders pressed to the cream painted wall, his arms crossed over his chest cynically watching her. All she could see in her mind's eye was the dream him watching her there, naked and exposed to her fully. "Hmm...," was all she could do in response to him turning back to her door.
"Hey, I said I was sorry," his voice rang through the hallway and he was at her side before she could turn back to him almost standing in her doorway.
"I heard you," her will power dwindling but remaining short with him.
"You know that's pretty damn rude of you to spill coffee on me and then not even acknowledge MY apology for something I didn't even do," he wasn't going to let her pass she could tell and she finally looked into his features. Even more handsome than the dream him she had come to know over the last few months and the blush returned to her cheeks.
"Look, you were standing in front of MY door like some lost idiot," the animal in her soul taking over and defending her territory there was a growl hidden in her tone, "so I don't see the need to be nice in any way to you. I'm late for work and you've just made me even more late because now I have to change my clothes. If you would please remove yourself from my doorway, it would be greatly appreciated." The sarcasm dripping heavily from her last words as she shoved past him.
"That is no way to talk to a potential neighbor," he spoke calmly as he stepped from her path. He watched her too closely and it made her uncomfortable. "But, I will look past it if you could give me your name. I'm Ian."
Entering the apartment her hand delicate on the edge of the door she stops to look at him, "Well, Ian, my name is Sam and I don't care if you forgive me for anything because you aren't my neighbor just yet."
As she shut the door he spoke one last time, "Aren't you just rainbows and sunshine? Hope you have a great day at work," then muttering to himself she could only assume, "gonna change that neighbor situation for her."
