Prologue
The seven silver rings kissed the huge white orb that drew her attention this night in the deep wood of Morrow, her chestnut fur covered snout lifted upward in an almost salutation the primal scream in her white crested chest lingering in the air on her wolf voice. Long ears flick backwards at the greeting of paws over the dead debris littering the floor of the joke of a forest she'd come to know as her running ground. She lowers herself on her front legs, defensive but aggressive, the dark bristles of fur down her spine spread out over and down her hips and hind-quarters. The beautiful light of the full moon giving an eerie look to the moist, elongated canines coming from her small snout. Brilliantly glowing sea colored eyes trying to pierce the darkness fearfully, seeking out the danger before the danger finds her.
Whatever may have been coming seemed to sense the tension in the air shift from peaceful and natural to hostile and heavy. She snarled out a warning in her physical voice box, concentrating on sending the message within her mind in intelligent thought with her instinctual voice box. If it is another like herself then it would know this is her territory and to go about its business. In the modern world, they had learned to go separate ways and not to travel in numbers and these were her hunting grounds, this was her city.
Her entire body jumped at the sudden movement to her immediate left and she fell to the ground with a soft thud as her paws hit chest and stomach. The tightness in her expanded chest made her realize her heart had stopped working for a moment and she willed herself to calm, her hind legs edged her into deeper grass ears back. There was no question what had drawn her attention when her eyes touched his softly sun kissed flesh glowing within the silver light that filled the clearing. So perfectly stretched over his long body she could see every natural definition, strung like only a Faye weapon could be strung, Broad shouldered and soft scars here and there about his arms and upper shoulders, he was a shifter she could tell considering he was in a public park with no garments to protect him from the brisk air. Long wavy ginger hair that made him almost appear to have a halo in the lighting that Nature provided them, framing a chiseled jawline and pointed chin hidden beneath a equally bronze red goatee. His roots dominant in his daydream worthy form and she found herself drawn into him momentarily allowing herself to do just that.
The pup in her chuckled for just a moment and she knew the being had heard it for he turned his head in the same direction as hers and made eye contact. He was showing her she had the dominance, approaching her with a respect she'd never known the males of her "pack" (if you could call it that considering no one could live together)to do to any female. She shook off the question as he was just trying to make her guard come down and she tensed once more, snarling at him. Still coming on to her, he crouched onto her level with his hand outstretched she could see the Fire burning in eyes of a steely blue with a gentle fog of green within them. Pleading with her to take his offer of peace, a comforting warmth seemed to flow off of his goose bumped skin toward her. The question was clear on her brow as her eyes focused on the hand creeping toward her her jaw snapping out at it without thought.
".... Follow it.... Trust it....," her wolf screamed inside her mind and it sent shivers through her already wired body. Without thought or reason she felt the Old One in her bow her body forward in submission to the encroaching male.
Keeping a distance from him by lowering herself as tightly to the ground as she can, curved to be able to look at him directly not wanting to be misguided into something she couldn't get herself away from quickly. His hand rested atop her head between her pointed ears, the touch alone causing a sudden relaxing energy caress and she lost her muscle control. His long callused fingers ran through her thick glossy fur at her ears and she nuzzled slowly into his petting, her eyes closing she almost purred. A deep chuckle wrapped itself about within her ear and she realized his lips were at her ear, "That's a good girl. Yes, she is. I know you can hear me calling to you every night, S'thora Loraine."
