five teenagers were inside a pickup truck, blasting korean rap music. the sun standing directly over them in the sky, shining warm rays down on the teens. the air whipped their hairs back, and they let them flow behind them freely. it was hotter than usual, but they didn't really mind it. the road they were driving on was long, with nothing beside them but empty fields with long grass.

the one in front of the wheel shouted over the loud music, "julia, could you not attract attention? i swear every bitch in the area already heard us."

the girl holding the boombox at the back of the truck grinned, clearly amused, "dont be such a party pooper, amelia. is the sun heating your head too much? we're free and not stuck in the camp."

amelia rolls her eyes, "if you didn't want to be in the camp in the first place, then why did you go there? didn't think you were the type to be ungrateful for a camp that literally saved your life."

julia removes her sunglasses, a frown appearing on her face "amelia, what the fuck? i didn't say anything about not being grateful for the camp. i owe my life to the camp, and you of all people should know that." she says, the mood of the truck immediately souring.

"yeah, but you were implying it. im not dumb, julia." amelia replies, never taking her eyes off the road.

"okay, okay, break it off guys. this is not something to fight over." another girl intercepts before julia could say something back. "we shouldn't be fighting right now, especially when we're about to go in an infested neighborhood. we should work together, and instead of fighting each other, we should find those bastards.

"fuck off, justin." amelia growls, turning a left. justin frowns, but didn't say anything back. and the whole car ride became silent.

the other truck behind them were the opposite, loud and energetic. a boy pumps his fist in the air, whooping and laughing. "whoooo! this is the first time driving!!!"

but the boy beside instead was gripping the seat tightly, "um, kane, could you slow down for a bit? i think since your knew to driving, we should take it nice and slow-"

but kane blows a raspberry, "fuck that, it's the apocalypse, keith! whether we die right now or later, it doesn't really matter. but what's important right now is having fun!" he says, turning the wheel left and right, rocking the truck also.

keith's grip on the car seat tightnend, his knuckles turning white. "i would very much like to die at a much later date please, and especially not in the hands of someone driving down the road like a drunk man."

kane rolls his eyes, "you sound like an old man."

"IM YOUNGER THAN YOU."

the rest of the car ride was spent with laughter and silence, the sun shining brightly down on them as they start to enter a neighborhood. it was a small one, with parallel houses that repeated with every street, like those in tv shows. but unlike tv shows, this were abandoned long ago. and they start to see the effects of nature on them.

some of the houses showed their age, with the pain starting to peel and the wooden fences starting to rot. the grass on the lawns were knee high already, and the pavement were painted with a crimson color that could be nothing else but blood. they also ran across a few bodies but all of them were dead.

they stop in front of a house, parking their trucks beside the sidewalk. the house looked like it had been abandoned long ago, like the rest of the houses on this block. the yard was overgrown and the blue paint was peeling off the concrete walls. the windows had been borded up from the outside, and the door had multiple barricades ranging from wooden planks to metal sheets. barbed wire lined the fence, snaking through the yard and crawling up the walls.
