Vincent:
The flowers in my backyard were blooming rather nicely since I buried Doctor Holt back there, and I couldn't help but wonder if Cindy's freshly buried body would help with my garden. Morbid as it was to think about, I had to try and look on the bright side of killing two people in less than a year. My father once told me that fresh corpses were better than any fertilizer. I was beginning to believe that.
I washed the dirt from my body, then went into the kitchen and fixed myself a cup of hot tea. As I sat there and savored the silence, I pondered my next move. I could not get busted with Emily again, or else I was doomed to go back to jail.
But she was pregnant with my baby, and that bound us together for eternity. I couldn't bring her back here. The police would search here first. I was going to have to take her to an different place, one where no one would think of searching.
The only thing I had to worry about was grabbing her. She would put up a fight, which I couldn't let happen because of her condition. Losing the baby because of a domestic brawl would be devastating.
I finished my tea and went to bed. I awoke the next morning with a little more pep in my step, despite the fact that my dreams were haunted by the murder committed the night before.
After grabbing myself a bite to eat from a fast food place, I drove straight to Emily's home and parked across the street. The sun peeked from behind the trees in her backyard, and the birds happily sang a toon to greet the beautiful morning.
I reached into the glove compartment and pulled out the spare key to their house, praying that they didn't have the foresight to change the locks. It wasn't long afterwards that Kenneth and Robbie came out of the house. I hid myself behind the steering wheel until I heard their car driving away.
This was it. Everyone in the house was gone. All I had to was get inside and wait for Emily to get back from school. I would subdue her family, then take her with me to live out our new lives.
I looked around the quaint neighborhood to make sure there were no witnesses before creeping to the door, smiling as I unlocked it. My heart pounded in my chest when I stepped inside. The first thing my eyes landed on was a framed picture of Emily and Robbie sharing a huge pepperoni pizza. Her face was covered in sauce, but she was still lovely.
I sank into their comfortable couch and leaned my head back into it, savoring the smell of their leftover breakfast. There was a time when I was apart of this beautiful family, and I blew it.
I would have been a wonderful son-in-law.
The sound of a woman humming broke me from my thoughts, and I froze. I thought everyone was gone for the day. Kenneth and Charlotte should be at work, and Emily should be at school.
I slowly stood up and pressed myself against the wall, poking my head around the doorway to see Charlotte sitting at the kitchen table.
She was in her pajamas, typing on a laptop with a pair of reading glasses on. She must have been doing some online training for her teaching.
This could not be happening. I didn't want to have to deal with any family members this early in the day, but she left me no choice. Closing my eyes with a sigh, I pulled out the small pistol stashed inside my pocket and walked around the corner.
"Hello, Charlotte." I said, displaying the pistol so she knew to keep quiet.
Her eyes immediately widened, and she stood from the table. "Vincent," Her voice was no louder than a whisper, "What are you doing here? I thought-"
