[CHAPTER TWO]The twin boy kept driving to wherever his car took him, and ironically he ended up at his parents house.
Parking his car, he noticed that both his parents cars were gone so when he walked in the house, just to make sure he yelled "MOM! DAD! Anyone here!"
Shrugging he made his way up the stairs and into his bedroom. He missed sleeping in his bed, and although he loved college, he couldn't help but miss home all the time.
He stopped examining his room when he heard the house phone starting to ring. He rushed downstairs in hopes he wouldn't miss the call.
"Hello?" He questioned. The number wasn't familiar to him. "Uh, I'm sorry to bother but is this number in any way affiliated with a Mr. John Dolan?"
Ethan froze after hearing the name, for it was the first time in seven years that it was mentioned. "Hello? Is anyone there?" The sweet voice knocked him out of his trance and he responded with, "Y-Yes, this is his grandson....why is something wrong?"
The girl on the other side of the line struggled on how to say the next few words. "Um, how soon can you get to California sir?" Ethan donned a questioning look while the girl bit her lip, cringing at the fact she just told him he had to go to California.
"May I know why I need to make an appearance there?" He asked, sarcasm dripping from his lips. "I'm sorry to say this b-but you're grandfather had a....he had a heart attack sir." Ethan had no emotion. "We're afraid he doesn't have very long left."
"W-Where is he staying." Although his family probably forgot, or just didn't care, that didn't mean Ethan did.
He was the closest to his grandpa, and when the girl said he didn't have much time left, he felt that he could've searched for him. Before it was to late.
"He's located at Sharp Memorial Hospice Home La Mesa, California sir." He nodded writing it down on the nearest piece of paper he could find.
"Thank you, ill be there in the next few days." And with that they said there goodbyes then hung up on each other.
Ethan dropped the phone back in its place before sitting down on the couch with his head in his hands.
"Son, what's wrong?" His father asked setting his bags down by the door, his mother doing the same afterwords.
"Um nothing, just missed you guys. That's all." He said forcing a smile on his face. He couldn't tell them the truth. They had so much hatred for his grandfather after what he'd done.
They just wouldn't care and he wasn't ready to hear anymore stories about the topic. He just knew he was buying a ticket first thing and not telling anybody. Maybe Grayson.
"Well I'll see you guys, college things to do." His parents didn't question his tactics, so he hugged them and made his way out to his car.
-
Once he hung up, she ran her hands through her hair then let out a small smile. "I'm guessing someone answered considering you have a smile one your face.""Yeah, his grandson. He said he'll be here soon and I can't help but be ecstatic for Mr. Dolan." Diane gave her a hug notifying how it was a touchy subject for the girl.
She loved Mr. Dolan like family. Him and her had a bond like no other. Yeah sometimes he would be angry and bitter, she knew he must've been hurting. And none of that ever pushed her away because she knew he needed someone to be there.
"I'm sorry." She sniffled. "It's okay, you did the right thing calling." Diane assured.
"Thank you, but I have to go. College stuff." Diane nodded and the student grabbed her bag and walked out of the door.
She checked the time once she got in her car, and her cell phone read twelve twenty seven. She had time, she started class at twelve fifty.
She just needed to make a stop at her dorm room to grab her economics book.
-
Ethan rushed into his dorm room where his brother was seated on his bed reading a book."Hey E, where'd you go?" Ethan ignored his brother and forged through the closet to find his duffel bag.
"Or should I ask where are you going?" Ethan ignored his brother again throwing whatever clothes he had inside.
He then made his way inside of the bathroom to retrieve his toiletries, with his brother trailing behind.
Fed up with being ignored Grayson grabbed Ethan shoulders making him stand still. "Dude, what's wrong?" He asked.
"Pops had a heart attack." Grayson automatically knew who he was talking about since they only called their grandpa from their dad pops.
Grayson felt the same as Ethan about the whole situation. They both missed their grandfather dearly, but since Ethan was closer with him, he felt more pain.
"How do you know?" Grayson asked as he sat down at the desk beside the bathroom. "I went home and some girl called the house." He answered.
"Does mom and dad know?" Ethan shook his head in response. Grayson nodded. "So you're going to see him." He said as he looked up at his older brother.
"Yeah. He's in California." Graysons eyes grew wide at the mention of California. "How'd he get all the way over there?!" Ethan shrugged and continued to pack.
"I have no idea. But the girl on the phone said he had a short amount of time left." The bag already full he sighed and looked down. "I have to see him, let him know that I forgive him. Enjoy the time he has left together."
His twin brother stood up and pat his back. "Do what you have to do Ethan, I'll stay here and tell your professors there was a family emergency." He nodded.
"And if mom and dad call I'll just say your out or with a girl...or something." Ethan turned around and gave his brother a long hug before they both walked out of the dorm room together.
