Lucy continued counting. “98… 99… 100!” she shouted the last number and yelled, “Ready or not, here I come! Where are you Annabelle?” She exited her room and entered the pitch black hallway. Outside there was rain and thunder. The small ceiling light provided enough light to see the flickering lights from the narrow hallway through the bottom of the door. As the florescent lights buzzed and flickered, Lucy walked down the hallway opening every door except for Jane’s.
She explored the hallway smiling as she did so. She was singing a chanting quietly.
I’m going to find you. You can’t hide from me.
Her small chant eerily echoing through the wooden hallways. With every door she opened she became more determined to find the doll before the lights burst and the darkness engulfed her. A grin stretched across her face as she came to the last door. She opened it, jumped in, closed her eyes, and yelled, “Found you! I found you, Annabelle!” She opened her eyes and to her surprise, the doll wasn’t there. She had entered another empty room. No furniture to hide behind or under. No curtains to wrap herself in. Nothing but the door. She walked it and shut the door. She examined the room again and saw no sign of her doll.
Lucy whipped her head to face the door. There were tiny footsteps in the hallway. She heard an echoing giggle too. Lucy smiled as she opened the door and ran back down the hallway. She stood there in front of the mysterious white door with the strange woman inside.
Daddy said no to go in there she thought to herself. She turned away from the door and the lights above her burst and went out. A small grin spread across her face and slowly she opened the door. She peeked in and saw the woman sleeping. She smiled and slowly stepped in. Annabelle was sitting on the high window by the ceiling, away from reach. Lucy frowned and walked over to the window. She looked around and saw nothing to climb on top of, so she started jumping.
With each jump she let out a small grunt. After a few minutes she saw something glistening in Annabelle’s hand. She jumped up and finally reached Annabelle’s leg and pulled her down.
Lucy fell to the ground and pulled in a quick breath. Annabelle had landed on top of her. Her big eerie eyes staring into Lucy’s. There was pain in Lucy’s torso. She gasped and moved Annabelle off of her. There was the glistening object that Annabelle had. There was a small scalpel inside of Lucy, just below her ribcage.
Lucy gasped and screamed at the sight of her own blood, which Annabelle had spilled.
Jane’s eyelids fluttered open to the sound of a scream at her bedside. She looked down and saw the little girl lying there with her creepy doll. The doll’s hands were covered in blood and so was the girl. She jumped off of the bed and saw the little girl gasping for air and gripping her chest. Jane kneeled down by the girl and stared into her fright filled eyes. She carefully took one of her hands off her chest and saw the scalpel lodged deep in to her skin.
Jane let out a deep breath and said, “Calm down, calm down. Try not to breathe so fast. Breathe with me.” She took in a deep breath, and Lucy did the same. She let it out and so did Lucy. She continued this for a few minutes before Lucy finally calmed down.
Jane let out a sign and said calmly, “I have to take out the scalpel or you’ll die. Keep as calm as you can. Ok?” Lucy nodded and took in deep breaths. Jane ripped cloth off of the bottom of her shirt and gripped the scalpel’s handle with the cloth ready. “1…2…3” she said and pulled out the scalpel. Lucy screamed as Jane put the cloth on the wound and pressed on it.
Allen came running down the hallway at the sound of his daughters scream. He entered the open door and saw Jane pushing down on his daughter’s chest with a small cloth. Looked at the doll and saw the blood on her hands, as well as blood on Jane’s.
He ran back down the hallway frantically. When he came back, Lucy was silent; Jane still pressing down on her chest, sweat beading down her forehead.
“She’s still alive! Stop standing there like an idiot and help me!” Jane yelled at Allen and broke his trance. He kneeled down and lifted Lucy’s shirt. He placed a pad on the wound and wrapped it in gauze. After he taped it up, he picked up his daughter and carried her to her room.
She placed her on the bed and stood there staring at her. Jane walked into the room with the doll in hand, no matter how badly she wanted to destroy it. She looked around and saw a small bird cage. She placed the doll in the cage and locked it. She took the key and placed it on a string and tied it around Lucy’s neck.
