Sora watched her Mother, coming in from another unsuccessful hunt. Her head was drooped, and she came to lay down beside Sora. She remembered the soft, silver fur of her Mothers tail as it curled around her. She saw how her mothers foggy blue eyes blinked down at her when she asked the question;
"Why did Daddy leave?" Sora had always wondered. Her mother had a hard time finding enough food for the both of them, so Sora had always asked, if her Father could come and help. Her mother sighed sadly, nuzzling Sora's own black fur.
"Because, it is only natural that they leave. The fathers never raise their young, that is the mother's job. He only did what's natural." She said, looking past the borrow entrance with misty eyes.
"But you miss him, don't you?" Sora asked, turning around in her leafy bed.
"Yes, I do. And i'm sure he would have loved you. You have his bright green eyes." Mother had said, poking Sora's nose with her paw. Sora yawned, shifting around in her bed.
"Can you tell me about him again? Pleaaaaaaaaase?" She said in drifting voice, already falling asleep. Mother simply laughed.
"I think you should get some sleep, it's sunset. You need your strength for your first hunt. Remember, we hunt to feed, only taking lives so we may eat." She told her, but Sora wasn't listening anymore. Her eyelids began to droop, and her mothers voice was fading into the distance as Sora fell asleep.

Sora woke the next mourning with her mother gone. Mother never leaves her alone, she always tells me when she leaves. Sora thought, looking around. Being alone without any protection was scary. When she was alone, anything could just pick her up and eat her. Mother had always said it was a savage world. Like all Kiranai, Sora had a sort of natural defense. Each one was different, her mother had venom in her fangs, and Sora could blend into shadows, and turn nearly invisible. Her fur changed colors from black gray, to silver to white. But, being only a year old, Sora had little to no control over it. It just happened. She had also heard of some Kiranai of having acid spit, could breath under water, have amazing hearing, extreme sense of smell, or even some, could walk through fire, or do things like glow, even though some Kiranai have glowing eyes already. There were just so many things they could do. So many things they could use against you. Sora felt herself shrinking down, trying huddle in the corner and wait for her mother's arrival. She waited for what seemed like an hour before she started to get concerned. Even on hunts she took only half an hour, at max. She shifted in her fern bed. Should I go outside to the stream? It's not that far . . . and it's the safest place besides the burrow . . . She slowly got to her feet, pawing at the ground, leaving long scratch marks in it. I have my invisibility, i'll be okay. She walked up to the sunlight, blocking the path ahead. she had never been outside before without her Mother. Mother had always told her it was a dangerous place. She stretched out a paw, the light didn't hurt. She suddenly leaped out of the only save place she had ever known. Sora blinked her four green eyes. The sunlight was just so . . . so . . . Bright! Blinking her eyes several times, she finally adjusted to the brightness.
"Wow! Mother never told me that the trees were so huge!" she gasped, tilting her head all the way up, nearly falling in the process. The leaves were so many other colors than the dirty brown that filled her den. The only colors Sora had ever seen were from the plants and prey that her mother had brought. Mother . . . Where was her mother? She had been gone for a while now. She'll come back, she probably just went to hunt. Sora trotted over to the ferns, already hearing the rushing water. She nosed her way through the thick clumps of weeds, her pelt getting wet with dew. Then she saw it. Crystal clear waters, pouring down small rocky ledges, running over the smooth pebbles that lined the ground. Sora gasped in wonder. Slowly, she took a step closer, her small paws quietly making their way to the water's edge. She slowly dipped a paw in, surprised by the pleasant coolness of the water. The stream rippled at her touch, and Sora retracted her wet paw. She followed the stream until the flow started to slow, ending in a pond. Gazing down in wonder, she saw her own reflection.
"WOW! I do have green eyes! And my fur is already changing a lighter gray to match the bright sun!" She shifted around, looking at her furs at all different angles. She swished her tail over the water, giggling as it stirred, disorienting her reflection. Sora froze all of a sudden, unsure why.
"It is as if you have never seen your reflection before." A voice said. There was someone there with her.
