"This is it," Annie thought to herself facing the gates of her new high school, "I am moving up to bigger things! I will miss my old life in primary, but I will probably find a way to move on."
She slowly opened the gates while clutching onto her bags in hesitation, her shyness was starting to show already. Behind her was a boy covered in stitches,
"hurry up already!" He shouted, soon after he pushed her aside and opened the gate.
The gate was so old that it made a horrible scraping noise, so horrible that all the crows flew away from their nests,
"you take so long just to open a gate," he told her, "it's not that hard to just push on it,"
he walked away from Annie dropping a card behind him.
Annie ran up to it and picked it up. She was going to give it back but the boy was so upset with her she decided to hold onto it for a while. The bell rang, meaning that Annie was going to be late for the opening assembly. So she ran as fast as her legs could take her towards the front of the school; to the left was a huge dark building where everybody was lining up to go in, above it said assembly hall. She knew immediately that she was meant to line up with the others so she ran up to the back of the line, dropped her bags and sighed in relief. When the line started moving Annie quickly picked up her bags and began moving with the line, they entered a dimly lit hallway with a silk red carpet on the floor. The hallway led up to a huge stage with chairs in front of it, and a few children were already seated in them. While glancing at the chairs she saw the boy covered in stitches walking down the aisle and she still had his card, though she still wanted to hold onto it.
A teacher walked up to Annie and gave her a slip with the number 57 on it,
" that's your seat number," he told her and walked up to the next person behind her.
She started making her way down when a different teacher stoped her from progressing,
" you have to put your stuff in the shelf with your name on it," she told her as she pointed to the huge shelves on her right.
Annie went back and searched for the shelf with her name. It was quite easy since the female shelves were before the male ones and the shelves where in alphabetical order. Turns out only her and one other person had names starting with the letter A. She put her stuff in her shelf and started looking for row 50, though finding her shelf was a lot easier then looking for her seat in a dim room, so she asked people on the inside ends of the rows what their seat number was. One kid answered 20, which meant she had to go down further. She asked another kid and they answered 70, which ment she went down a bit far but she was close! She went up two rows and asked the end kid if this row was row 50,
"yup," the kid replied,
Annie sighed in relief and made her way in between the chairs then took her seat.
"Hello students!" Said a female voice from the stage, "
I am your principal Mrs Ivy and I am happy to welcome all of you to our wonderful school! We will do everything in our power to make sure you have a great quality education and that you are safe around campus."
"Now this assembly won't take long, as you leave this building you will be given: a room card, a map of the campus, a map of the dorms, your timetables and bliss books. And before anybody asks. One, your dorm mate is your dorm mate and that is final so don't come complaining about them unless it is a serious problem and/or emergency. Two, the dorms will be one girl with one boy. You will have separate showers and closets so don't worry. And three, do your best in school and good luck in your journeys!" "Now teachers, if you could all show the children out to the dorm blocks."
And do they did.
Annie followed the teacher with the purple ribbon to the dorm blocks since he was indicating to get up and follow him,
"what about our stuff?" Annie asked,
"they will take our stuff to our rooms" whispered a kid behind her.
On the way there Annie was constantly thinking about who she would be paired up with, what kind of personality would they have and if they will help her enjoy life more. She was so lost in thought that she bumped into the wall of the dorm block face first, she quickly reversed and walked into the block hoping that nobody saw but unfortunately everyone saw, but they didn't react like how other types of kids react.
She went inside to find a board on the wall, that wall had the list of people's roommates. She squeezed through the crowds of people to get a closer look at the board. She saw her name at the top, thankfully the female names on the roommate list are in alphabetical order though the male names follow the alphabetical order backwards (so they go from Z upwards...interesting). She was paired up with a boy name Zaniel in room 23 on the second floor, she squeezed through the people again and made her way to the stairs.
She wondered who Zaniel was and how he would react to her; would he laugh at her for face planting into a wall? Will he help her with her brushed nose? Will he just ignore her? Well, she won't know until she meets him so up the stairs she went!" I know this might be the wrong thing to do but I just want to have a little peak at that boy's card just to get a little info on him, and then I will return the card," Annie thought to herself,
then she pulled the card from her jacket pocket and read the card in shock.
"This card...it belongs to....ZANIEL!
