"Marla!! Marla, over here!!" I look over to find Xavier Deandre waving his arms with a huge grin on his face looking toward me, he the hottest guy in 11th grade surprisingly, he is more dorky than cool.
I had so many questions flowing through my mind right then, I couldn't concentrate. I flopped my lazy bum on a chair right next to Gio Swanson my long-time boyfriend. Xavier finally broke the silence after what seemed like a decade- "Marla, we're having a party tonight at my house and we were wondering if you could bring Audrey Cassie as your guest..?" "You want me to bring my cousin to your party?" "Audrey Cassie is smoking hot and we would be very happy if you brought her as well!" "Alright, will do. I will call her up after school, she owes me one anyway." The bell finally rings after sitting in silence for a few minutes and we gather our things to get to the next period.
After school, I went back home and gathered everything out of my closet to figure out what I would wear to the party at Xavier Deandre's house, after staring at a dress for an hour I finally called my best friend Mallory May to give me some advice on what to wear.
"Yeah, definitely not that one, you look like a plump potato wearing that outfit" "Thank you very much, Mallory, I think I get enough criticism staring at a mirror all day" "Touche!" "What are you going to wear to the party anyways, Mallory? You haven't told me!" "Umm.." "Wait, you're going, right? I cannot be the only person I know there, dis-including Audrey Cassie" "Of course I am going, I wouldn't leave you there stuck with a bunch of boys and tutus" I glare down at my watch nervously and unnoticeable "I think we should get going, we don't want to be late!" "Stop what you're doing! I do not want to show up with you early, that is just plain embarrassing." "We won't, promise. But, I do have to pick up my cousin before we arrive, don't forget about that"
I hear my older brother screaming through the closed door of my bedroom"MARLA!! OPEN UP, WE NEED TO TALK!" "Talk about what??" "TO TALK ABOUT THE CRATES OF LIQUOR I HAVE BEHIND ME FROM MOM AND DAD'S CELLAR!" "Shhhhhhh! Not so loud, Finn. Come inside, though." "So we have Wine, Beer, Vodka, Rum, and Gin. Does that sound like enough?" "Sounds like plenty! Now, Mallory will help you pile the crates into mom's SUV, I am borrowing it tonight!" "Hey!! Who'd say I'd help, heh?" "It's not up for discussion Mallory, ugh!" "Now, go go!"
I let out a long and high-pitched sound when I hear my phone ring while getting ready for the party, ugh, caller- ID it's Audrey Cassie. "Hey, Audi! We'll pick you up in a few minutes, okay?" "Okay, sweetie. But I think I'm running a bit late as well, I spilled Iced coffee on my dress!" "How long will you be?" "Eh, probably about 10 minutes, if that is okay? I have to get a short shower and change my dress." "Well, alrig--" before I could finish my sentence I heard a big bang coming from outside followed by a screech of tires, I quickly said I had to go to Audrey, and ran outside to find Mallory crying on the curb with streaks of blood coming from her legs, and Finn waving his middle finger at a bunch of guys in a Porche racing down the street. Finn finally broke the tears coming out of Mallory's eyes by actually speaking real words other then murmurs"I am so sorry about Gwynne and Drew, Mallory" "It isn't your fault, Finn! I should've known better, I should've known better!" tears coming out of Mallory's eyes, followed by sniffles from her nose- she was sad but determined to get payback towards Drew and Gwynne.
Later that night, after the party, Finn and I caught up with Milo-our older brother, whom at the time was kissing two girls at the same time, I've never recognized them before, they probably were in university. Audrey Cassie hitched a ride with one of the guys she met at the party and left before we could leave her off - she was pretty drunk.
I waited over by our SUV so we could leave the party like discussed. "You guys ready?" I say aloud, with heads turning my way. "Yep!" They both jumped into the SUV, with a loud bang coming from the far backseat, I turned my head to see freshened-up Mallory all ready to go.
During the time in the car ride toward our house, Mallory somehow convinced both Finn, and Milo to break into Drew and Gwynne's homes for revenge, and she would vandalize their vehicles whilst stealing $15,000 in cash from their safety deposit box.
I slowly squinted my eyes towards Mallory when she surprisingly yelled: "We're here!!" In a high-pitched pig squeal type of tone. Mallory stared into the house of Drew and Gwynne's to see if there was anyone inside, then quick as lightning Mallory hopped out of the SUV and grabbed destructive tools to do some damage with. Followed by Milo and Finn who were just as stunned as I was. Quietly, Mallory started swinging her hammer all about in a manner I couldn't understand. Hushed by Milo, Mallory stood in the moment with a big beady-eyed smile on her face warming up Milo's rock-hard heart, we all started hushing one another thinking we heard something inside of the house - no doubt came through my mind. We all carried on swinging our tools all around doing damage to the house, vehicles, and breaking-and-entering to steal $15,000 in cash.
Early the following morning the phone rang with our mother, Judy Betsy, answering in a disbelieving tone, the next thing I know we were called down into the living room with Drew & Gwynne's family around the bookshelves looking at us dead in the eye. I look around the room to see my brother, Milo, Drew & Gwynne's family, our parents... But no Finn?? I begin to slowly trace my steps toward our bedrooms to see each empty, I tiptoe around the house as fast as I can go to see if I can find Finn. No Finn insight.
God, what happened last night? We drank so much I can hardly remember what I was thinking a second ago. Okay so... We were with Mallory May and we-- TRASHED DREW & GWYNNE BENSON'S HOUSE!! Holy Tamale, I feel like I am having a dang brain baby... Eeek!
I walk back downstairs tugging Milo's arm with me with and eye-for-an-eye glare, once we got to my room we shut the door tight behind us panicking. And, I started confessing what happened last night and what we should do, I then hear Milo stuttering to speak but manages to say actual words: "Where did we put the $15,000? We need it to get Finn back, I got this scary text message saying if we don't give back the money by 10 AM Finn will die, and they even attached a picture of Finn with a gager in his mouth, he looked unconscious in the photo." "Okay, okay, no time to panic! We left the bag of money with Mallory, and Mallory is...?" "In the cellar" "How do you know that?" "Because we brought her down there, don't you remember anything?" "Not a single memory." "Bye-bye Felicia" "Hey! Where are you going!?" "Follow me." I followed Milo Impatiently toward the half-opened door leading toward the cellar, we suspiciously look down noticing Mallory crawling up the stairs "MALLORY!! DO YOU HAVE THE MONEY?" "Of course I do" We pulled her up with all of our strength, she handed us the money bag and we messaged back the unknown user and got a message back containing all the details on how/where to find our brother, Finn.
We meet at the destination - with the money bag of course, and we frighteningly push Finn into our car with the tires screeching so fast we didn't see who kidnapped him. Silly of us, I know, now that we look back I realize that we were naive teenagers, but we have learned the rules of life and we have left the mistakes we've made floating into the past.
