( If the world is ending, you'd
come over right? )" We make a great team, we're best friends after all! "
That was what you and Shota had grown into thinking since the days where you two were still students at UA High. Being close with Shota and Hizashi and being the loudest of the two— you had brought what little light Shota didn't know he needed in his life.
It was true that he liked you then, he could never get enough of your personality. If he could dive into someone so optimistic just to erase his own insecurities, you would be that person he'd most likely to dive into. This also goes for you.
Maybe it was his short replies or his mysterious self that you have liked him for, you have grown so curious of him you didn't know you'd be attached. It wasn't a shock for Hizashi to know of your little secret, he had been rooting for you two to be together after all.
But that didn't really go as planned, to be together that is. Your plan of becoming a pro hero was as serious as how Shota sees it too, you wanted to be a mini symbol of that peace. To stop what evil creeps into the crust of Earth as much as you could and to prepare the next generation— and so with this, you ended up graduating and being called as pro hero without having to spill your feelings at all.
You two's personality could've blended so well, you could've been together. Forever could be your resort, you could've been– you almost had him and he almost had you but almost is a damned thing.
Almost is never good enough.
" You're not really kicking your students' butt are ya? " You cheerily asked the teacher, a small smile had made its way to his lips.
" I might get there, they're irritating me. "
" You're irritated at everyone, silly. " You added. It was just another pro hero off day where you two's free day coincide so you thought of drinking on a Saturday night. It was fun to hang out with him again, as you fight on the streets while he prepares the next generation of heroes.
Maybe it was the drunk you talking, or maybe you've filled your limit you ended up spilling. " I've always wanted to come home to someone, but I don't think I'll have that anytime soon. So I thought if the world ends somehow, maybe in the near future, would you be the first person I'll come home to? "
" Would you really go to your house when the world's ending? " Was Shota's question, you laughed away. Not minding how you could've looked so pathetic being drunk. " I have cats at home, I'm dying with them if that happens. So, what do you say? "
" I've been alone too, I guess coming home to meet me would sound nice. "
Days after that, you kept on thinking what you and Shota were talking about when you were already drunk. He never really likes alcohol that's why he'd usually sip on his drink and would not bother to finish the rest. But you were stuck into thinking, did you say something horrible?
Did you confess even? Ah, that would suck if you did.
You stopped leaping from one building to another as you reported that everything's going fine 'round town through the ear piece connecting to your agency. You ended up on the ground as you walked to patrol, waving at people who recognized you as you walk.
On the huge screen of the town which displays news, you felt like running when you've read the headline.
" Villains attack at UA's USJ. "
It was enough of you to return back to the agency as you asked a hero who was eating donuts away to take your shift, you haven't taken any breaks for the day anyway– they might as well conclude your vast leave as break if they will.
" He's in the hospital right now.. It's just that his injuries are—"
" Don't make it sound like he's going to die, Present Mic. Just wait for me there, I'm on my way. "
You wondered why everything seem so dull and slow when you're thinking a lot, or when you were running through the halls of the hospital, when you were asking where Shota was. The nurses were skeptic and then it had given you hope, maybe he's not hospitalized? Maybe he's okay?
But all hope was crushed when they told you his room.
You ran even if they told you not to, you were so close to crying. The vague memory of what you and Shota talked about came back, you asked him if he'd come if the world was ending. But the memory after what you asked him didn't return.
Aizawa knew it wouldn't.
" Let's just run away together, yes? When things are alright, let's just settle down. " You murmured in annoyance. And though you still love your job, there's still that half of you that says you can stop now.
Aizawa chuckled at your state, you looked like a normal employee who despises her job right now. Knowing your alcohol tolerance, he took this as an advantage to reach his hand out and comb his fingers through your hair. In response were your snores.
" Yeah, let's do that. Let's be together. "
Minutes later you found yourself beside a fully wrapped bandaged Shota, thinking how it could happen, how he's resting like that. You've heard of what happened to him, even if they said that he's going to live— the thought of him being irresponsive scared you still.
You rested your head on the bed, a little far from his body. As your hand rested on the sheets as well.
" If I say.. That you've been basically my world, and somehow if this was the end we were talking about, you hadn't asked me really if I'd come over.
But you see, I did. So hurry up and get well already. Let's be together, please? "
