"All rise. This court is now in session."
The judge came and silently sat on his chair while gesturing all of us to sit down.
Hiding all the pain was my forte, but this time was different. I tried to calm myself when they started talking about the case. I was so confused. I didn't know what exactly had happened. I somehow can't figure it out. Everything is new to me, 'cause i'm not used to not know what exactly is happening around me. I am thinking of all the possibilities. All the what if's.
I can't think straight.
My mind is popping out different ideas, different scenarios. It's like a puzzle that has a lot of missing pieces. Every idea that comes out from my mind was a piece of that puzzle. That I think my mind is about to blow up.
I breathe heavily. My heart is pounding so fast and so loud that it's making me dizzy. I think that it might come out of my chest any minute now. The searing pain inside my throat is silently killing me. I gulped so hard and pursed my lips an attempt to ease the pain I am feeling. The pang inside my chest felt like a knife that was continuously stabbing me. My nose felt a tinggling feeling up to my ears. That triggered my unwanted tears. Now my tears started to fall. I bit my lower lip to prevent them from falling. But it was no use. So I tried looking up to the ceiling and shut my eyes to prevent them from falling.
Now my head is spinning.
Everything is so confusing.
Idea..after an idea.
My head is babbling nonsense. Making it more confusing.
The voices turned into whispers.
I suddenly can't understand the words that they were saying.
I know they are talking about the case. But why can't I hear it?!
Why does my ears produces this ringing sound. It's like a static on a radio. Or the sound of a heartbeat machine when the person it's monitoring has stopped breathing.
Then i felt the cold floor on the sides of my cheeks. Finally, I heard noises.
It was screaming.
I didn't bother to open my eyes. I just didn't felt like it. I was so exhausted. Not just physically but also mentally.
At that moment I realized that there is always one puzzle that i can't complete. That one maze I can't surpass. And that one problem I can't solve.
I'm floating. As if someone's lifting me up. So I decided to open my eyes to just see myself sitting there smiling with my brother inside our dining area. We were talking about something.
This. This was the day where all of this started.
"Liv, usap tayo" he said.
"Baliw, nag uusap na tayo ah! Tsaka nakakakaba naman yan!" I laughed. Kasi diba nakakakaba naman talaga yung ganoon. He just stared at me with concern and.. totoo ba to? kinakabahan? So I decided na mag seryoso na lang din because I think he's dead serious right now.
"Okay okay. Spill." I sighed.
A minute has passed and he was still looking at me! Not even saying a word! Kala ko ba may sasabihin siya? Di naman ako nainform na gusto lang niya makipag staring contest! Ano changed his mind agad? Ganon kabilis? Speed ka? Hawahan mo kaya crush ko bagal eh. Syempre hindi ko sinabi yon. Nakakatakot to pag seryoso eh.
"Huy! Tao pa ko. Ako to si Nat-" hindi ko na natuloy sasabihin ko dahil tumunog yung doorbell. Weird. Wala naman kaming inaasahang bisita.
I looked back at my brother trying to ask him kung nag invite ba siya ng kung sino. Kasi hindi ko naman ininvite friends ko ngayon. Tsaka may rule kami na dapat nag sasabi muna kami sa isa't isa kung may parating na bisita.
"What? I didn't invite anyone. Wag mo 'kong tignan ng ganyan" he scoffed.
"So sino yon? Manliligaw ko? Mang haharana ganon? Tsaka pano niya nalaman address ko? Hala! stalker ko ba to? Pati hoy loyal kaya ako sa crush ko ha." mahabang sabi ko with matching pamewang pa.
"Loyal sa sampu kamo." my brother smirked at me. Well..hindi ko naman matanggi. Kasi totoo! Gosh.
"Ikaw kuya alam mo. Minsan nakakainis ka rin noh? Teka nga kanina ang seryoso mo parang mangangain ka pa ng tao tapos ngayon ang lakas ng loob mo mang asar?" mahaba na namang sabi ko. Medyo naiinis na. Ang gulo niya eh. Pero pag tingin ko uli sakanya mukhang seryoso nanaman siya. Kaya tumayo na lang ako para silipin kung sino yung nag doorbell.
My brows furrowed when I saw two policemen in front of our door. Huh. Baka may nangyari? I don't know. So I just opened the door for them to see and also ask why they are here.
" Uhm. Hello po! Ano po yun?" I asked while smiling at them.
" Is this where Mr. Knight Oliver Corey live?" the policeman with thick brows, pointed nose and well he has a nice built. I think he's like the age of my dad. Bago ko pa mapag tuuan ng pansin yung isa pang pulis nag taka na agad ako kung bakit nila hinahanap si kuya.
"Sino yun?" my brother suddenly came and opened the door widely para makita rin niya.
"H- hinahanap ka?" I slowly turned to my brother just to see him nervous and shocked. Pero bakit?
I was staring at my brother with curiosity in my eyes. I was asking him so many questions in my mind.
Halos mapaluhod ako nang marinig ko ang sinabi ng pulis. Tears were already falling from my eyes.
"Mr. Corey you are under arrest for attempted murder. You have the right to remain silent." sabi ng pulis.
