"Beth, don't use the guest toilet, Carl has crawled up the pipe again!" Mom yells from somewhere in the house.
Let me explain that sentence properly..
Ten months ago my Dad died. Two months after his death, my South African born Mom decided to pack up our lives and move us to a small game reserve owned by my estranged grandparents in South Africa.
I had never met my grandparents before that, you see they weren't exactly approving of my parents relationship. When my mom was nineteen, her and two friends decided to do some traveling before they all went to university. They went to a bunch of countries across Europe, the last country they had planned to visit before heading back was the UK. On their second night in London, they went out to a pub, as my mom was walking in she walked straight into my dad, who was carrying a pint of beer which ended up all over moms shirt.
After staring at each other for awhile, Mom, being the blunt person she is, gave him a huge ear full while using some very colorful language and then marched off to the bathroom while Dad stood there completely shocked. He ended up waiting for her outside the bathroom for what he says was "half a lifetime" while listening to Mom go on and on to her friends about how big of a moron he was. Somewhere during her rant Moms two best friends Jen and May started gushing about how "hot" dad was, and Mom, after moaning at them telling them that that wasn't the point and that he was still a moron, agreed and went on to say how dreamy his baby blue eyes where.
Dad always use to get so cocky during this part of the story.
When Mom finally left the bathroom, Dad, who was on a high from the ego boost, apologized to Mom and offered to buy her a drink. Mom saw the cocky look on his face and turned him down straight away. That only fueled the fire, after many more attempts and buying Mom many drinks, he gave up. Mom and her friends went on to have a fun night dancing and messing around while Dad watched her from his corner booth for the rest of the night.
The next day Dad still couldn't get Mom off his mind and while he was walking to the coffee shop near his apartment, he wasn't paying attention and walked straight into someone, messing their coffee all over him, that someone was Mom, who's hotel was across the street from the coffee shop. After a lot of arguing, mainly from Mom, she agreed to pay a fee for the damage her coffee had done to Dads clothes, the fee being to spent the rest of the day with Dad.
Dad took Mom to lots of his favorite spots all over London, they went to a few tourist spots like Big Ben and the Buckingham Palace Gates but her favorite spot was a small corner book shop where they sat for hours talking about everything and nothing. For the next five days Dad would meet Mom and her friends outside of their hotel each morning and would act as their tour guide, he took them all over London, showing them many little secret spots that weren't mentioned in any tourist guides.
On their last day, before flying back to South Africa, Dad took Mom out to dinner. Their attraction for each other had grown during those five day and well lets just say Mom didn't go back to her hotel room that night. Dad went with them to the airport where they agreed to stay in touch as best as possible, exchanging numbers and emails and after a lot of mushy stuff Mom left.
Before her flight had even landed in Johannesburg they already had started writing emails for each other. Mom made it back to the reserve and Dads life went on as usual and within the weeks that followed they emailed daily, that was until eight weeks later Mom realized she had missed something and took a test, the test was positive.
Two weeks after the test Mom worked up enough courage to tell my grandparents, it didn't go well. Mom left home that day and went to stay with Jen who had an apartment in the town near the reserve. Jen had been nothing but supportive and eventually convinced her to contact Dad, who Mom had been avoiding for two weeks, he had sent her multiple emails and had even tried to call her twice which is expensive as it was long distance. So when she phoned him, Dad answered straight away ready to tell her off, but before he could say anything Mom said she was pregnant.
