The everlasting silence cloaked them in the midst of the night. No one spoke, no one moved, no one dared to make any eye contact. None of them could bear it. Nobody could have imagined this is where they'd end up. Each and every one of them transformed into a new person, but not one with a clean conscious.
In the deepest part of Misty Hills Forest, there they were. Knowing that no one would be this far out at this time of night, it was the perfect place to be, to hide. The group stood in front of a small fire, watching intensely as it grew rapidly from the pile of blood-stained clothes catching aflame. Now, the crisp wind nipped their skin, undergarments being the only protection from the chill of the evening. There was no other choice, everything else had some sort of red stain.
"Well," the boy wondered, "what do we do now?" He was once the mysterious boy in school, the one with a mountain of rumors revolving around some sort of 'bad' persona. Only now did that reputation suit him.
"There's nothing to do now, what's done is done," the brunette stated. She had such a brilliant mind, no doubt receiving a scholarship to Yale already. If only the admissions board knew what she had used her intelligence for tonight.
"We are all in agreement that no one is telling any sort of authority anything, including our parents right?" The standstill jock pipped in. The other four gave him a quick, reassuring nod. He was only one week away till scouts watched his football teams' semifinal game. And if he wanted any chance of getting into college himself, no one could know what had occurred a mere few hours ago.
"Of course we're not telling anyone, but what do we do once we get back?" She had stayed calm up until now, but thoughts about what would happen if anyone found out consumed her mind. Of course, being involved with the theatre department, she was going to be able to act naturally among her peers.
"Here's what's going to happen. We get in the car, drop everyone off. We can say we went to the creek, lost track of time, and our clothes got wet. Make sure you aren't seen and shower as soon as possible. You have to wash your body to the extreme, no trace of anything but raw skin left." She paused, sighing in an attempt to possibly lighten to mode, as well as slow her racing heart. "Then, we go on with senior year. We act normal, continue with our daily lives. And after graduation, we get as far away from this town as possible. None of us can come back. Ever. And we won't see nor talk to each other ever again." she declared. The rest of the group once again nodded thoroughly.
The teenagers looked back to the fire as their clothes became nothing but black ash. Although they were simply watching garments burn, in their eyes you could see their own souls scorch into a shadow of their former selves. Four of them have lived here since they took their first breath. Having to leave the only place they've ever known was not as easy as she made it seem.
She had just moved to Misty Hills, but after tonight, she knew that her stay would be a short one.
