As soon as I walk through the door I'm once again overwhelmed by the amazing scent. I shrug off the odd feelings accompanying it, they must have a really good air freshener in here or something.
Looking around the decent sized room, I instantly spot a large wooden desk which a man, who was probably somewhere around my age, was occupying. And damn was he handsome. Actually handsome doesn't even begin to describe what he is.
The alpha had midnight black hair with striking baby blue eyes framed by long lashes all slapped on a perfectly structured face. Holy hell.
As soon as he locks eyes with me, I see his pupils dilate and his kissable lips pull back over his perfect white teeth. With a furious snarl he pushes his desk away so hard that it smashes into the wall opposite me, with a very loud crash to go with it.
I haven't even been here for five seconds and I've already pissed off the alpha, only I can manage that. I mentally face palm myself as he stands quickly, causing his chair to fly into the wall behind him. All the flying furniture is making me want to bolt even more than before.
"Mine," he growls possessively, stalking over to me, all while never breaking eye contact.
That one word breaks me out of the trance I had managed to put myself in, so I quickly duck and roll just in time as he launches himself at the spot I was just standing.
Rolling my shoulders back, I growl and say, "I don't belong to anybody, especially you."
"Mine," he states and launches himself at me yet agin . This guy obviously has problems keeping his paws to himself, plus he really can't take a hint. I yelp and dodge him, fighting the instinct to go wolf. The unpredictability of their reactions is a too big of a risk.
I don't acknowledge my hood sliding from my head, too concentrated on trying to survive. The alpha though, he notices. And with no warning, appears in front of me and forcefully pins my hands above my head and against the wall. I barely manage to contain my blush as he let's out a strangled, "Wow." I don't understand why his reaction made me feel something.
I quickly take advantage of his unfocused state to slip from his grasp. And only then do I manage to notice the fading tingles and sparks from where he had previously grabbed my wrists. It must just be from the lack of circulation reaching my hands or something.
I rush through the door and past the beta and the guards who were still standing in the hall with shocked expressions. Running down the stairs, I dodge anyone who makes the mistake of trying to stop me and fly out the open door. As the wind rushes around me, I feel the adrenaline flowing freely through my veins, pushing me faster through the trees.
Suddenly a haunting howl pierces the crisp air, filled with such longing and desire that it freezes the blood in my veins and causes me to come to a screeching halt.
That howl is the one that changes everything I've worked for, that howl takes away my ability to run any longer, to be alone any longer, for that is the howl of my true mate. My other half.
I have no control over what happens next, I already feel my body unconsciously changing into my magnificent golden wolf.
As soon as my paws hit the forest floor, I let out an answering cry, so loud that all the town must have heard it. I know I just alerted the pack to my location, and yet I can't run. Even though my mates howl has stopped, he's still calling to my soul with such a pull that it wont be satisfied until I'm with him. The mate bond, already at work.
Sitting back on my haunches, I wait, just not quite sure for what. I do realize though, once black wolf emerges from the trees and into the clearing with me, making the pull increase drastically. The black wolf which is undoubtedly the alpha, and this is undoubtedly my mate.
I'm mated to the alpha. Me. Alpha. Mated. Great. Stupid fate, can't I ever get a break?
