River's POV:

The next morning Ansleigh got four proposals. Esme got two. All of the other girls, including me, received one. We made our way into the gathering room to receive information on who had proposed.

I held the proposal card in my hands. The man who was on it took my breath away. He was beyond my expectations. He was tall and slender, but not skinny. His emerald green eyes were entrancing. He had dark black hair with hints of blue. His hair was brushed up like he had just ran his fingers through it.

I made my way over to Esme but when I crossed in front of the door, there were men standing in the front room. I walked more swiftly to her. When I had gotten close enough to glance at her proposals, I rolled my eyes.

"Micah proposed to me!" she said with a squeal. She was beaming ear to ear. I have never seen a girl so excited to marry a pig. "Never mind that Esme. There are men in the front room. We are getting sent to our new homes today!" She perked up at my words, obviously excited.

"Ladies," Head Instructor Collins said trying to gather our attention, "You all may not be expecting this so soon but, you are being sent to live with your fiancés."

Some girls gasped while others kept their composure.

"Now please line up in alphabetical order facing me." she announced.

Luckily, Esme and I have talked the Instructors into letting me stand next to her.

Then the men came through the doors and stood at the other end of the room, facing us.

All of the men looked to be in their early or mid-twenties except for one who could be fifty or sixty. Even though there were only ten of them, the unusual amount of people in the room made all of us anxious. I surveyed them, and to my disbelief, Micah was not there.

I looked over to Esme, she was heart broken. All she ever wanted was for Micah to love her and they get married. I just hoped she would get the man of her dreams today so she can take her mind off of that lame excuse of a human.

After the first two, Ansleigh and Annabelle, Esme was up. She didn't show it, but she was about to burst into tears. The only thing keeping her from that was being expired. When you get expired, the Instructors throw you away. We have never truly figured out what happens, but it's bad.

Esme was lucky, although she didn't marry Micah, her fiancé was very handsome. He was blonde with slicked back hair, blue eyes that caressed every curve of her body, all included with his smirk of approval for Esme. He didn't look like the type that would hurt his wife, that was good.

On the other hand, when the Instructor got to me, all I could focus on was him. The man who wanted me.

He was gorgeous. Almost as if he had been carved by the gods. His chin was sharp and turned up as he looked at me with a smirk. His eyes. They were deep pools of green. I could have stayed in that moment forever. His weight pushed back onto his left leg. He was beyond handsome.

And I was the one who was going to marry him.

After all of the girls had been signed over to the appropriate men, I glanced over to Esme. She was sad but not as sad as before. She clearly liked her fiancé and was aware of his beauty. She looked at me and we smiled, mouthing the words, "goodbye, I love you". Esme was always like a sister to me. I hoped that he would treat her right.

Next, I was escorted by the man who chose me. Realizing I forgot to read his name off of the card. He had a very nice car. It was a deep red Ferrari, but since I didn't take any classes involving vehicles, I couldn't make out the model.

He drove fairly fast and silently. I was taught that he should start the very first conversation. So I waited and waited, no words. It got to the point where I fell asleep.

I hoped he won't mind.
