River's POV:
"Do you-" Luca started.
"Do I what?" I replied.
"Never mind."
"Do not 'Never mind' me Luca." I said with a slight amount of playful sternness in my voice.
He raised his brow at my remark, "Or what?"
"Or I will not answer you no mater what you say unless you finish what you started to say."
"Fine my flower, I was going to say, Do you-" Once again he was cut off but this time not by his choice. He stood from the couch and made his way to the front door.
He opened the door but I could not see who was there. I also couldn't hear them talking. I decided to walk past the door as if to get myself a drink.
I looked in the direction of the doorway after getting myself a glass of wine and saw a young woman that seemed to be around my age. She had strawberry blonde hair and large hazel eyes. Her hair was long, reaching to her lower back. She looked to be a good few inches shorter than me.
"I'm sorry Misty, I do not love you and I do not want to see you again." Luca told the girl as I walked back to the couch.
"But Lucas what did I do? I thought what we had was special." The girl replied on the brink of tears.
"Listen Misty, I am no longer going to be with you and we aren't going to get married anymore."
I dropped my glass, shattering it on the ground. They both turned their attention to me.
"W-what?" I stuttered out and then turned and ran to the nearest room down the hall. I closed and locked the door behind me.
I heard the front door close and Luca step on the glass walking toward the room I was in. The room was too dark to see in so I just listened to whatever came from Luca's lips.
"River." He said my name in a whisper from the other side of the door. "Please come out so I can explain myself." I didn't budge.
"You do know if the project found out about you breaking stuff and disobeying your buyer, they would have to take you back and I'm sure they wouldn't be happy." He taunted me.
I wanted to beg him not to do it but all I did was cry.
I really didn't want to go back and be expired.
Luca's POV:
I was sure that my clearly false threat would open the door.
I heard River crying through the door. I lost it.
"River, please don't cry!" I practically yelled to her as I started pounding and scratching at the door. I felt like I was about to die. The thought of River crying her eyes out because of me made me want to hold her and do anything to stop her crying.
"Please, open the door and let me explain." I whispered, sitting with my back to the door.
She still did nothing but try to silence her sobs.
"River, I don't know how to put this exactly, but I do not like or love Misty. And just so we are clear, my father was the one to tell her that some day she would be my wife. I never had any intention of even getting to know her.
I specifically told my father I was waiting for my mate. The moment I saw your application, I knew there was something special about you. Although the main reason I really paid attention was your blood type which is extremely rare. I didn't realize that you were my mate until I had a series of visions when I drank from you.
