Fanfics are Books
Does it have to be paper you hold in your hand to be considered a book? Does it have to appear on a library shelf to be considered a book? Does it have to be written by a famous author to be considered a book? If you said no to anyone of these, continue reading. Fanfictions can be paper and be held in your hand or they can be typed onto a fanfiction website such as Wattpad.com. Sometimes they're even read aloud and posted on YouTube.com. Fanfiction is something you will not find in a public library, you will have to go on the internet. Fanfictions are not written by famous people but some authors can be paid to write their stories. I just finished reading a Harry Potter fanfiction named Hadrian Salazar Riddle by Amber Silverwood. Fanfictions don't have to be based on a movie, cartoon, anime, or book. Fanfictions can be based on people like such as BTS, MCR, and etc. Fanfictions are still typed with a love of their topic, fanfictions are still loved by many, and fanfictions vary like actual books.
Fanfictions can still be considered books because the author makes their story with a love for their subject and you can tell in their writing. If someone writes a story on a topic they don't have an interest in then it sounds a lot more monotone, and they don't make you so happy like most books do when they're made with love. When someone writes or talks about something they really enjoy a new sense of happiness that can be seen on their faces. How do you think J.K Rowling felt when she wrote the Harry Potter series to see so many people had loved what she did. Ever since J.K. was a child she wanted to be a writer and share her stories with the world. And she did and most of us fell in love with the books that she put her time, effort, and love into. While writing the series Rowling was a single mother just trying to get through life with her child with the small paycheck she had. But without us realizing, our love for her books saved her and her child. And the same love that J.K. put into her books is what fanfictions authors put into theirs.
Fanfictions are still loved by many, including me and some of my friends. In all I have read over 100 fanfictions that are at least(if printed) the size of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in less than one month, I may or may not have an addiction. Anyway, one of my friends is also addicted to fanfics so we talk a lot about fanfics and what stories we like, ideas some authors had, and what we could write. Just like regular books, fanfictions have inspired many people to write their own books. There are fanfictions from Harry Potter to Bill Nye. Fanfictions can have different storylines. "but the hidden gems are fan-freaking-tastic. Someone who can take a setting and characters that you've already intimately familiar with, do something novel with them, write them in that 'step off the page' way that good authors do, and write well, in general, is just amazing to encounter." says Indy Zoeller on unrealitymag.com. Many people enjoy fanfictions a lot more than they do the original fiction. Fanfictions lets your mind to wander to places the books, tv, or even real-life never let you. That is why fanfictions are so loved by their readers.
Fanfictions vary like regular books. There are many different types of fanfictions. You have your fluff(fluff is where nothing happens that isn't school appropriate, more just cutsey romance things that most females like), you have your not so school appropriate(which I avoid), and other different genres like other books such as thriller, dystopia, suspense, and others. Twilight was originally a fanfiction by the way. Most fanfiction you may come across will most likely romantic, as many authors like to write about their ships. (a ship is either a boat or it can be referring to a couple they want to be together, wither its cannon or not.) some ships, for example, are Drarry, Snarry, Sasunaru, and many many others. Ship names can either be a combination of both or all names or there can be an x between the names. Like for Drarry its Draco x Harry, or Sasunaru where it would be Sauske x Naruto. Some fanfictions just take the world that the original took place in, like many Harry Potter stories. Authors take their original character and place it into their world, some stories there are no characters where they were in the original fiction(s). Like other books, fanfictions vary in topic and size. Some fanfictions focus on bands, like One Direction when they were together(oh the horrid memories from that time), or BTS and how some fangirls ship some of the members together(I for one do not do that, they seem more like brothers to me). The size can vary to the size of IT by Stephan King to the size of a child's picture book. Some fanfics are called one-shots, that is where there is only one part or chapter, but there can be a collection of one-shot from ships they like. As you can see fanfictions really do vary just like any other book.
For these reasons and the evidence is why I call fanfiction books. But I know some who still won't call them books, and I won't try to stop you. Even goodreads.com calls them books. Also if you want to argue that regular books are more child-appropriate, then explain to me what Fifty Shades of Gray by E.L James is. Fanfictions can be considered books, doesn't mean they have to be, but if someone doesn't want to call them books then that's fine. They'll be them, and you'll be you. Just know that fanfictions will always be waiting for another reader to come.
