"Awake at last?" Recovery Girl mused, looking quite pleased with herself. Kaminari sat up abruptly, only to have a wave of dizziness hit him.
The school nurse chuckled. "Careful now, don't want you passing out again."
With a flash, Kaminari remembered what had happened. More slowly this time, he stood up and slid himself off the infirmary bed. "Thanks, Ms. Recovery Girl," he affirmed. "I'm gonna check on the situation."
---Later that night---
This was so,,,,,so,,,, stupid!! Abominable! The audacity! The disrespect!!
As it turns out, our protagonist's struggles were in vain. Aizawa and the other teachers did not, in fact, permit him to see Nakatari - who was(in case they forgot), the girl that Kaminari himself saved. Apparently she needed time to "settle in" and "get 'stuff'" - which was fair enough, he guessed, but still! (Mans just want to see the bestie 😔🤚)
Even though Kaminari tried to convince himself he only wanted to see her for the sake of checking on her well-being, he couldn't help but think that he had somewhat ulterior motives. Nakatari's face was etched into the very fibers of his brain; her soft features and shining eyes. Somehow, he knew he felt something for her, just didn't know exactly what. It couldn't be a crush already, he'd only just met her. Yet he knew it wasn't the type of feeling Mineta described as "Awooga." He didn't think "Zamn! That girl fine asf" when he saw her.
If he had to describe it, Kaminari would say it was like a desire to...protect. Like a sense of responsibility had come over him in the form of this girl. And it shocked him - Kaminari Denki, feeling responsible? Eww..
Shrugging off the sticky mature feeling, he walked across his dorm room and plopped onto his bed, stretching out with his hands behind his head.
Just as he was drifting off...
Knock, knock.
Kaminari snapped out of his half-asleep state with a start. Trudging tiredly to his door, he grabbed the handle and pulled open the door.
He nearly pissed himself when he saw who it was.
Nakatari herself was standing at his door, staring blankly into his eyes.
"Um..." Kaminari started, at a complete loss for words. "Come in?"
The girl shook her head, her blue tresses shifting gently. "No need."
The voice of an angel.
Mentally slapping himself for his absolute simp behavior, he coughed. "Alright, then. What can I...do for you?"
Without any sort of awkwardness that clearly filled the air, Nakatari spoke again.
'I wanted to thank you for rescuing me," she indicated. "It's been quite some time since I have seen the sunlight. And felt its warmth. To me, you are a true hero, not some apprentice."
A slight pause, and she fidgeted.
"That is all."
She turned, beginning to walk away without another word, before Kaminari stopped her.
"Wait," he called. She looked back, almost ethereally, as his heart caught in his throat. "It was no problem, really. I mean, it was a bit of a problem, and Uraraka did most of the work, and - well," he began to mumble like a buffoon. "Yeah. Uh, don't worry about it. Just glad you're ok!" he grinned a little uncomfortably, flashing her a small thumbs up. She returned the favor by...blinking. In utter shock at his stupidity? Probably.
Then the corner of her mouth lifted, and she was smiling. Kaminari could feel his heart racing as her eyes softened. And without any other words, she turned and disappeared around the corner, leaving him standing there speechless.
Is this love at first sight?
