Why? Just... Why??

I thought today was going to be somewhat normal for once, whatever that was, and boy was I wrong. When I arrived at Hyakkao, I saw a huge cluster of students around the wall. Usually, there's only crowds like this around the rankings, but this wasn't in the right spot to be that. As per usual, my curiosity got the better of me and I elbowed my way through the crowd to see what the fuss was about.

"Are you shitting me??" I yelled. "This has to be a joke!" This was in regards to the poster up on the wall, stating that Kirari was giving up her presidency and that to fill the vacancy, a gambling election would be held. As if my life wasn't weird enough already.

I turned around to see Yumeko and Ryota standing a little ways out from the crowd, and walked over to them to discuss this so-called 'election'. As always, Yumeko greeted me with a bone-crushing hug. Ryota, on the other hand, had finally become somewhat comfortable around me and showed this by giving me a small wave and a smile from behind Yumeko. But before I could even begin to say anything, I was interrupted by the sound of a video announcement.

*Testing, testing! Hey, guys, how's it going? I'm Runa Yomozuki, Head of the Election Committee!* I heard, as the image of Runa herself popped up on the TVs adorning the halls.

"What the fuck?" I whispered.

*I trust you've all seen the poster. Like it says, I've got some real important info to give you! Listen up! If you miss it, you might end up a house pet! The first and most important thing about this election is that the votes cannot be cast. Votes can only be transferred to another person by gambling! No other methods will be recognized. So there's no need to run as a candidate either, all students are both electors and candidates!*

The campaign length is 30 days. During that time, feel free to gamble however you want with whoever you want! No matter what happens, the one with the most votes after 30 days wins! Are you ready? I hereby declare the student council presidential election campaign officially open!*

That announcement took up all of our free time before class, so I headed off to the only part of my life that was still normal: actual school. Except for when I got there, Itsuki was waiting for me.

"(Y/n)! Can you come with me for a sec? Oh! And don't worry about skipping class, I have a note," she said.

"Oh, um, sure," I replied. "Where are we going?" She didn't answer and instead dragged me along behind her.

It took us a while, but eventually I recognized where we were headed: the infirmary.

"Oh no. Don't tell me this is what I think it is," I warned. She rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly before saying,

"Yeah... we're visiting Kaede."

"But why??" I asked. "He's such a jackass!"

"That's true, I guess, but I have his life plan, so..." It was then that I noticed the documents in her other hand.

"Right. I forgot about that." We then entered the infirmary and headed over to Kaede's bed. Fortunately for me, he was still asleep. I didn't realize how much stress that gamble put him through. It actually gave him Marie Antionette Syndrome.

"He's still sleeping..." Itsuki whispered. She just stood there, looking at him and clutching his life plan to her chest.

We decided to stay there for the majority of the day, as it was much better than being in class and we did have an excuse. It's not like the teachers here have any power over us anyway. The student council is the real powerhouse.

Eventually, the last bell rang and I decided that I needed to talk to Kirari. I said my goodbyes to Itsuki, who was still there with Kaede, presumably for a while. Walking to her office was relatively peaceful, because most of the students were busy gambling with their election chips. I did bump into Mary on her way out though.

"Oh. Hey!" I said.

"Hey."

"So what do you think of this whole election thing?" I asked her.

"Eh. It doesn't concern me," she replied, and walked off. Okay then.

So, I kept walking. I passed by one of the luxury rooms that school had, mostly used by the student council or the ultra-rich people that rented it out. I heard a lot of voices coming from behind the door, and I decided to listen in on them. That decision led me to one of my most questionable ones, which was to open the door.

Instead of the student council, who I was expecting, I was met with a group of students lounging around in there that I'd never seen before. Granted, I did just transfer here and I'm not all that social, but you'd think I'd at least recognize them.

"Who are you?" a girl in a wheelchair asked me. She looked really serious, and also kind of upset, which made me nervous because rich people can be really scary when they're mad.

"Oh, uh... I'm no one. Sorry to bother you, I thought you guys were the student council," I said. A little girl with pink hair, who was also the only one not in a uniform, laughed and muttered,

"Soon enough we will be." Then a guy who also had pink hair walked up to me.

"Student council, eh? What do you have to do with them?" Jeez, this guy was being really condescending. I scoffed and replied,

"I'm looking for Kirari. Have any of you seen her, by chance?" When I mentioned Kirari they all seemed to pay closer attention to me. Do they know her or something?

"Hmm, Kirari, you say? Interesting. I wonder what she'd be doing with the likes of you?" mused a different guy, who had dark blue hair cut in a really weird style. I didn't answer and instead stared at all of them, annoyed that they were being so rude. Yeah, I might've interrupted you, but you could at least, you know, not degrade me.

"Well, I'm gonna go..." I trailed off. All of them were still looking at me, but none of them responded. So I rushed out and went back on my way to the student council's office.

At this point I didn't really care if the other members were still in there, I needed to talk to Kirari and I needed to talk to her now. So I pushed the door open, with confidence for once in my miserable life.

Luckily they weren't in a meeting and instead were just kind of relaxing and talking to each other in small groups. Sayaka, as always, was right beside Kirari. I was still a little wary of her, but I had some faith that'd she'd at least be somewhat decent to me.

"Hey, um, what the fuck?" I asked. Kirari looked up from her tea and replied,

"Whatever do you mean?" with one of the biggest smirks I had ever seen on her face.

"In what way is this a good idea? I get that you like chaos, but what's the point?" I said.

"I said practically the same thing." This was Sayaka, and I was glad that she was on my side for this.

"For fun," she said, and took a sip of her tea while still looking at me.

"Right. For fun," I replied sarcastically. "Also, are there a bunch of new transfer students here? I saw some people in one of the rooms on the way here and I'm almost positive they didn't go here before today."

"Yeah, that's her family," said Sayaka, with an annoyed tone. "Something she 'forgot' to mention was that whoever wins the election becomes the new head of the Momobami Clan."

"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME????"
