Have I Gone Mad?

Chapter 1

        Tarrant Hightopp was a normal boy. His father worked in a hat shop. 2 months ago, Rant got Mad Hatters disease and was suffering in the hospital. he had visited many doctors before, but none of them knew how to cure it because it hadn't been in the country in years. His father had insited on making hats the old fashioned way, but sadly, Rant had gone to the shop with out his mercury mask on one day and he was paying for it everyday now.                         

William Hightopp's (Rant's Father) POV:         

        All i could see was my son, laying there hooked up to a tube, fast asleep. He seemed peaceful, but i knew he wasn't. I (shamefully) read his journal the day before, and he was fighting an internal war in his head. I knew that the mercury would make you go crazy, but i didn't know Rant was in the back of the shop that day. Why?!?! Why did i have to use mercury...out of everything i could have done with my life, i had to use a fatal chemical.
