Dr. Caitlin Snow is an exceptionally cynical woman. Perhaps this is because of all the horrible things that have happened to her, or maybe it's because she's smart – intelligent people tend to be that way you know. Caitlin, however, secretly thinks that she was just born sad. Everyone grows dimmer the longer they're alive, but some people, some people turn sad at an awfully young age. Caitlin Snow should know; she's one of those people.
But she isn't broken. It's important that people know she isn't broken. She might be a little bent, carrying fifty years of the possible future on her back until three in the morning every night will do that to a person. Maybe that's why she never told Barry how she felt about him. Maybe that's why she never said anything when she started to notice how Barry felt about her. Maybe that's why she sat by as he moved on from her and crashed right back into Iris. She thinks they almost loved each other, but Caitlin thinks a lot of things. The only thing she's sure of is that almost isn't good enough.
Barry's the sun and she didn't know what she was thinking, falling in love with the brightest star in the galaxy when she's nothing but a girl frozen over from the inside out.
She often finds herself staring at Barry staring at Iris and she can't help but think, how do you look at someone you love and tell yourself to walk away? Because that would be the right thing to do, right? The right thing would be to be quiet and simply look the other way when he leans in to give Iris a kiss.
She's found that denial was key. Every time she thinks she feels something for the man behind the mask, she would put a cold front and cut off all contact with her heart. It was the logical thing to do.
So, here she was again, another Tuesday morning at her desk. Her coffee mug half empty due to the fact that she has been getting no sleep and coat still lingering on her shoulders. Over the past few weeks Caitlin has found that she no longer seems to be gaining heat, she had tried everything from blankets, to hot showers and even sleeping next to her fire place.
She took her gloves off in frustration, letting out a long sigh before dropping her head to the desk. Although, no one had heard her or even gave her any mind at all, she seemed to have caught the attention of a certain speedster.
She doesn't know that he watches her, thoughtful and gentle, face open and saying so many things that his mouth isn't.
When Caitlin's managed to catch her breath she lifts her head from the desk, also catching his gaze and holds it a long while, mouth curled into a soft smile and her thoughts melting into nothing but love. Eventually she sees someone turn in his lap before looking down. Barry however, didn't see nor feel the motion. He stays there looking at her, still in thought, until someone tangles their fingers with his even as they press a kiss against the skin of his wrist, his eyes never leave her. Her eyes seek his again, soft when they meet. Small smiles form on both there lips.
"You okay Barry?" Iris, (although oblivious to there previous connection) couldn't help but feel something was off when he had tensed, then after a few very brief moments relaxed beneath her sitting form.
She saw his gaze move from where Caitlin was sitting to her. "Yeah, yeah sorry that was nothing." he shook his head before going back to work and iris couldn't help but look at the seemingly exhausted Caitlin snow then back to Barry.
"Was that just "Nothing" or was that something"?
