I woke up to find that my alarm clock was screaming at me to wake up, but honestly, what really motivated me to wake up, was the amazing, sensational, sweet smell of pancakes! Since coming to Earth I have come to take an interest to what you Earthen call pancakes, it's just something about the aroma of the maple syrup, the buttery satisfactory taste when you put it in your mouth! It just sounds like heaven to me! And yes, I do realize that its an odd thing to obsess over, but on my home planet, we didn't have anything as nearly as good as these! I mean, the food we had there was fine, we mostly got our food from trading with other planets, it just doesn't taste as nice as a, mapley, syrupy (or I'll even put jam on it sometimes!) pancake, (although a close second food here that I personally enjoy, it what you call chocolate! Ooh! And ice-cream! Especially chocolate and ice-cream put together! I might have a sweet-tooth for Earthen sweets...)
I had only been there for about four of your Earth months but my new Earthen half-brother Alastair tried his absolute best to make me feel welcome there, but yet, it still didn't quite feel like home yet. I go to the mirror in the bathroom only to be greeted by this mess of hair of mine, as I reached to grab my hairbrush to brush my hair I heard Alastair call me to go downstairs, "Nadia! Come down here and eat breakfast before the bus gets here!" I pull back my light blonde hair so that I could put it in a low ponytail and I put on my dark gray beanie with cat ears and anime like eyes (it was one of my favorite ones at the time to be honest!) To hide my barely noticeable horns "Coming! Just getting ready is all!" I could only find a plain blue t-shirt and a pair of dark ripped blue jeans so I put them on.
Earth clothes are so weird to me! On Elpis (my home planet), our clothes didn't feel as nearly uncomfortable as Earth clothes! For example, some of the shorts here are so, well, short! Aren't supposed to cover your butt not let it sag out? And one more thing that has always got on my nerves is why on Elpis would you make your dresses so short? Whenever you bend over I can clearly see your butt! That defeats the whole purpose of clothes!
Anyway, I'm getting off track here, again. When I get dressed I grab my green and black tennis shoes and run downstairs to eat breakfast "So, are you excited for your first day at school Nadine? I bet education was a lot different on your home planet than it is on Earth isn't it?" Melissa who was Alistair's wife, seemed to be getting more used to me being here but not much, all I could sense when I was around her was uncertainty and anger, like she felt that I invaded her home, I couldn't help but feel guilty about that, it's not like I can blame her, I mean, how would you feel if your husband just one day, went out and found this strange alien girl and brought her home? But at the same time, I didn't ask for Elpis and my people to be destroyed by the fear monster that came and practically devoured my people! Still, I answered as politely and honestly, well, as soon as Alistair walked into the room that is, as I could.
I looked away from Melissa "I'm excited!" I fake smiled, but, just then Alastair turned around to face me to meet his dark grey eyes to meet mine with a look that he didn't believe me. With that I wiped my fake smile away and said what I was truly feeling. After all, he deserved to know what I what I truly felt considering he went so far out of his way to bring me and welcome me into his home right? "But, I'm also quite afraid, what if someone finds out that I'm not human? Then what will happen to me?" I could feel my heart rate pounding in my ears, but I still went on nonetheless. "What will they do to me? Humans aren't exactly the most peaceful race in the Universe. I am honestly, mostly afraid, that they will cast me out because I am different."
Alastair almost instantly stopped what he was doing, and he sat down next to me and he looked at me sternly, and he looked the most determined I have ever seen him, he runs his hands through his raven black hair before he said those words that would soon never leave the depths of my mind. I won't ever forget those words for as long as I live. And honestly, I don't ever want to forget them. He ever so gently takes my beanie off my head and this is what he said.
"No matter what happens I will always be here for you no matter what, I know that we are not your real family," He paused as he pulled a loose hair that fell out of my ponytail behind my ear, then he looked me right in the eye, I did the same as I looked right into those big grey eyes that always seemed to put me at ease, no matter what I was felling at the time, he could always make me feel safe. "But hear this, Nadine of once a great Empire called Elpis, I will do whatever it takes to make you feel at home here on Earth, I will make my home yours even after I take my last breath, I will make this place I call home, your home too, and that, my dear, is a promise that I wouldn't dare break." I felt my heartbeat slow down and my horns turn purple, peace.
I could hear the bus pull up and I grab my bag and Alastair quickly pulls my beanie back on my head and wipe the tears from my eyes I hadn't even realized were there. As I started to walk to the door I heard my little cousin Amara come down to see me leave, I let out a sigh, yet I quickly walked over to her and gave her a quick but tight squeeze and I set her down and waved at her while I walked out the door. Once I finally got to the bus I saw something rather peculiar, it's was bright and blue and it quickly speed past in the sky. "Did you see that?!" I anxiously asked the person I was sitting next to, "See what? I didn't see anything..." he said while raising his eyebrows at me.
Strange, I could not fathom why I was the only one who saw the blue light, as I was pondering what it was I saw exactly, I sensed a strong familiar feeling, something that I had rarely felt since I arrived here on Earth, something that I didn't know I wanted to feel until I did, it was the feeling of Home.
