"KEVIN!!".

“AVI RUN! RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN!”

"But-"

“NO! GO!...I LO--”

“Kevin?... Kevin!”

He shot up from the bed he was in. Had he been dreaming this whole time?

“Are you ok, KevKev?” He turned to his side only to be met with a short bright blonde girl.

He wasn’t dreaming. It was real. All of it was.

“I’m fine, Kirst.”

“D’ya have that dream again?” Kirstie knew what was going on, he had been having them since she’d met him at the halfway point between human and hybrid world and that’s all he’d been having ever since.

“They’re not dreams, dreams are nice, this is a nightmare, Kirst. A nightmare I lived…” She knew about the mystery boy from Kevin’s drea-- nightmare. She knew he’d been having them for a long time…

It had been ten years since the incident, since the raid on the hybrid community… The last moments he and his best friend shared still plagued his mind as he laid in his bed, not listening to a word being said to him.

“It’s--- did you catch any of what I said?” He was silent and she sighed, her ears drooping, knowing he hadn’t. “I said, Craig and Janis are going shopping later to get essentials. You should go with them as it’s a good way to get your mind off that boy.”

“He isn’t a boy, Kirstin!” Kevin sat up, not meeting her eyes. “He’s a man now… a fully grown man who’s probably forgotten all about me… He’s probably moved on with his life in the community living with someone in a nice house with beautiful kids… Not caring about where I am… Not caring about me… I’m nothing to him now…” Kirstie couldn’t stand for it any longer and sat next to Kevin.

“Alrighty. Kev, look at me." She instructed her friend.

“What? You gonna lecture me like every other day?”

"You guessed it." She smiled. "You liked him didn't you? Like, more than a friend?"

“Liked? I… I loved him…” He looked to the ground remembering the last thing he said to him, the last thing he would’ve said to him...

"Then, given how close the two of you were, I highly doubt he's forgotten about you. If he watched you get taken, I bet you he got away safely and still think about you everyday. You don’t go through something of that ordeal and just forget your best friend. I was only 12 when the attack happened. I lost my best friend. And I still think about her. Every single day. You don't just forget. So stop dwelling on something that isn't true. I mean it." She drew her ears back, meaning she was serious.

“Yeah… okay… Thanks Kirst… It means more than all your other lectures.” Kevin laughed a little while being hit by the sassy kitty next to him.

She curled into his side and started purring when he scratched behind her ear, knowing she loved it. "I love you, Kevvy. You're my best friend." She purred.

“I love you too, Kit, you’re my best friend, too." He felt a pang of guilt hit him in the heart, but ignored it. There was nothing he could do now  He told her, still scratching the back of her ear. He gave a low growl, causing her to giggle.

"Wanna go with Craig and Janis? It'll get your mind off things." She offered kindly. "I'll go too, if you want."

“I… think I wanna stay, I’m drained.” He threw himself back down onto the bed as she curled up to him.
