THE EVIL THING

CHAPTER 4- THE DANCE

CASSIE WAS SET on not going to the dance, much to her mothers disappointment.

"Why won't you go?"

"Because," Cassie began to explain, "I hate dances. I hate people. It all fits together, you see?"

Her mother sighed, "Cassie, why can't you just be a normal girl?"

Cassie frowned; she hated- no, she loathed- the word normal. It's definition was enough to make her vomit her whole digestive system up, eat it, and puke it up again.

"Fine," she grumbled. "I'll go to the dance. I have a costume anyways."

"I thought you always wore costumes," Dylan piped in, walking into her room.

"Shut up, dweeb," Cassie retaliated.

•••

As she walked into the school, Cassie was proud of her costume of choice.

She wore a robe as dark as night; it flowed as she glided. It flowed almost like a long wedding dress when the bride walked down the aisle to her soon-to-be husband.

On her face, she wore a mask. It had the facial details of a skull, blood dripping down from its empty eye sockets.

In her sleeve was the little wire that if you pushed a certain button, more fake blood would come pouring out of its sockets and its bony jaw.

With a hood over her head, Cassie knew that the costume was perfect. Inwardly, she cackled with excitement.

Hidden in her hoodie pocket, which she wore underneath her cloak, was a super container of all of the cockroaches that she was able to find.

She stalked through the gym door, which was where the dance was going to take place.

Inside of the gym, Cassie suddenly felt out of place- like a palm tree in the middle of a white and fluffy, cotton candy-like snow bank.

She was surrounded by girls- some whom she recognized- wearing the worlds most sluttiest costume. If there was an award for the most sluttiest costume, it would have to go to Laura Clark.

Laura Clark was currently wearing one of those tight nurses outfits that looked like your boobs we're going to go and fly out of the costume at any minute.

In disgust, Cassie looked away and glanced towards where the DJ was. She saw him go through a door; she stalked him as he did so.

Staying hidden in the shadows, she waited until he finished opening the giant piñata-like ball and stashing streamers upon streamers in it. When the DJ finally finished, he went back out into the gym and played a slow song.

While he was distracted, she ripped open the ball and dumped out the streamers. Cassie replaced them with all of the cockroaches. Taping the giant sphere back together, she once again escaped into the shadows.

•••

She hid towards the back of the gym, watching with eager eyes as Alena hopped onto the stage.

Alena, Cassie noticed, was wearing what seemed to be a pink, rather short and expensive prom-looking dress. Why she didn't wear anything that would suit her personality, like maybe a bitch costume (wait, she wore that everyday), Cassie didn't know.

Alena's heels clapped against the stage as she gave a high-pitched girly squeal.

"And this years pumpkin queen is.... Alena Anderson!"

As soon as the crown was placed on her perfect head of stupid hair, the ball that had contained the streamers at one point earlier in the night dropped down, letting cockroaches fall onto her.

Cassie didn't know if it was a coincidence or not, and maybe she never would know.

Alena Anderson looked at her, straight in the eyes with her best death glare.

She had found out that Cassie has ruined her night.
