*Harry's POV*
We were doing an interview the next day. Personally, I wasn't paying much attention to the interview. Liam seemed to be fine doing most of the talking anyway and sometimes it seems like they all ask the same questions. I had been feeling that tell tale burning in my stomach since the morning and right before we went on set I set fire to the rubbish. I literally bent over the pail to make it look like I was throwing up from nerves and let the flames fly. Sometimes, I just can't hold it in no matter how hard I tried. Now I knew that the smoke was coming and that I still couldn't hold in no matter what. I turned my head away from the cameras coughing harshly and wheezing out a puff of smoke.
"Harry, did you just cough up something?"The interviewer asked.
"Um, no."The one time she pays attention to me I had to cough up smoke."I just had something stuck in my throat."The interviewer nodded her head sceptically not believing what I'd told her. Liam shook his head and wrung his hands, something he seemed to be doing a lot of lately.
*Louis' POV*
Oh God, he coughed up smoke on camera. This is bad, this is very bad. I tugged on my scarf letting air flow into the half inch space since I'd started to find it hard to breathe and that always made it better.
"So Louis, what's with the scarf?"The interviewer asked and I felt my lungs tighten at the thought of them finding out about my gills. What would happen to me if they knew?
"Is it a new fashion statement?"I nodded.
"Yes, I thought that it was time for a little change."The interviewer smiled at me but then her smile faded. She almost looked horrified and I raised my hand to the side of my neck expecting to feel the cool cotton material rubbing against my fingertips. Instead, I found my fingers brushing against something warm and I realised it was my skin. I then felt the familiar rhythm of my gills movement brushing my fingers, that's when I panicked. I pulled the scarf quickly over my now visible gills.
"What were those?"The interviewer asked her eyes still wider than dinner plates.
"Nothing, what are you talking about?"Harry said trying to cover for me and everyone else looked confused at what she was saying. She shook her head.
"I must've imagined it."She then continued on with the interview. Two close calls within 15 minutes of each other, how were we ever going to do this?
*Ella's POV*
I was watching the interview intently and began to fret when Harry turned away to cough up smoke. I knew he couldn't help it and it made me nervous especially when she noticed. Then Lou's scarf slipped and I almost had a break down right there. This was the first interview since it happened and our plans to keep it secret were already unravelling. Bee was upset and you could tell as things around my flat began to float off of the tables they were previously sitting on.
"Don't worry Bee, they'll be fine. They know how to handle this. They're big boys, they can do it."I said more to reassure myself than her.
"I know they can."Bee said as we continued to stare at the telly.
*Louis' POV*
When we got home I walked as calmly as I could into my flat and tried not to break something. How could I have been so stupid as to let my scarf slip? I knew how important it was we keep it secret and I'd just let it slip. I can't believe I was so stupid as to jeopardise everything in the first interview I had to deal with it. I pulled my scarf off and took a deep breath in. It felt nice to be able to really breathe again. It felt like I was breathing with my head stuffed in a pillow when I wore the scarf over my gills. It was hard to breathe without them and the thought of someone trying to fix me and take them away tightened my throat. The mere thought made it hard to swallow and brought tears to my eyes. I could no longer even remember what it was like to breathe without them. I needed them, just like I needed to keep them a secret.
*Niall's POV*
That was too damn close for my comfort. It made me jittery to think about it. I snapped my fingers towards a plug and the energy rushed for my fingers. I absorbed it until the lights started to flicker and then I stopped. Liam had warned me that if the power started going out constantly people would get suspicious. That was the last thing we needed, people getting suspicious and snooping around in our business. I created an orb of electric energy in the palm of my hand and began to toss it back and forth from hand to hand. It was quickly becoming a familiar habit of mine to do that. I needed to get out so I did. I went to a park and just sat in a bench. I knew that people would spot me, but I love our fans. They're the reason why we are where we are. Surprisingly enough only one directioner showed up. What happened after she did was not what I wanted to happen. Not in the slightest.
*Zayn's POV*
I was floating above my couch watching the telly. This was surprisingly comfortable. That's when I saw it.
"One Direction members Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson may be hiding something from their fans."The female reporter said."In an interview earlier today the boys were seen coughing up strange things and hiding cut looking marking on their necks. I don't know about you, but I think that if they're us something wrong we'll know soon enough."She smiled so wide I thought her face might break. This wasn't good.
