Nova's POV
During the night, all I dreamt about was the recent events that have happened. Every single detail. It was like I went back in time back to that point and relived it. It was torture.
I sat up in the bed, rubbing my eyes. Swinging my feet over the bed, I shuffled out of the bedroom into the kitchen to get a glass of water. As I looked out the window, I noticed white specks falling at rapid speed in the night. It was still snowing. Maybe I could take Cassie ice skating or something tomorrow. I shrug at the option, she probably won't want to.
"Nova?" a sleepy voice makes me almost jump through the roof. I turn around to see a very tired looking Meredith with her red hair tied up into a bun and her night-gown hugging her chubby figure.
"Jeez, Meredith! You scared the crap out of me!" I whine, placing the empty cup on the counter. She covers her mouth and giggles like a child before speaking up.
"Sorry, what are you doing up this late?"
I shrug, my usual response, but then reply. "Nightmares."
Meredith sighs before walking towards me. "Nova, your safe now, okay? Don't worry about it too much, there just dreams" she reassures me. I shrug my shoulders back, she's right, they are just dreams, but they where absolutely terrifying and very detailed.
"Yes, I know..but they are scary." Meredith rolls her eyes.
"You're such a child, Nova. But you are welcome to stay up, if you'd like" Meredith smiles softly. Maybe I just will stay up. I absolutely hate it, but I have no choice if I don't want nightmares.
I smile back at her before retrieving my cup and filling it with water and then walking back into the bedroom. I sit on the bed, unsure of really what to do for the next five hours of not sleeping. I was wide awake now, and usually when I'm awake, I can't go back to sleep.
Maybe I should start planning tomorrows day. Maybe Cassie and I could go ice skating or something to brighten the gloomy mood. Maybe I could show her around CrystalWood. Wait, she still is a human. I guess that's not an option.
---
I'm jolted awake as someone jumps onto the bed making me bounce. I open my eyes seeing Cassie on her hands and knees on the bed, staring at me and smiling.
"Wakey Wakey, eggs and bakey!" she beams. Why is she so cheerful today? It's almost sickening. Of course, she looks adorable when she's happy.
"Cassie, what are you doing?" I giggle before pushing myself up sleepily.
"It's snowing! And it's almost Christmas!"
Christmas? What the heck is Christmas? Is this some weird thing they have in the human world that they celebrate or something?
"What is Christmas?" I ask awkwardly. Cassie's eyes widen impossibly larger and she frowns. "You don't know what Christmas is!?" she almost shouts.
"Meredith! Cassie is going crazy!" I shout in a jokingly way, deciding to join along in the fun. Cassie rolls her eyes before squealing and moving to sit on her bottom.
"Christmas is the best time a year! There's presents and trees and- family.." she trails off at the end, her cheery mood coming to a harsh stop. I move to hug her as she begins to frown.
"Hey, it's okay, Meredith and I are your family for now, and if you teach us how to do this- Christmas- thing, we'll all celebrate it together. Does that sound okay?" I explain, using all my strength not to kiss her right now. She looks up from the hug, her eyes studying my face before her smile returns.
"I guess so," Cassie answered, only a hint of sadness in her voice. "Pretty much, you need a tree and just a bunch of presents for everyone, but you have to wrap them. And to make it even more fun, you decorate the tree with a bunch of different things, in the real world we use things like lights and ornaments."
"That's very interesting, and actually sounds fun. We only have two holidays in the fairy world. One is called Super day and the other is called Season Day. On Super day, all the fairies and their powers join together to create one big show. Like a talent show basically. And on Season Day, it's basically a season change. It's not too special" I explain. We didn't have many fun things here. At least not holdays.
Cassie nods in interest. "We need a Christmas tree" she says.
Where are we gonna get a Christmas tree? There's no such thing as Christmas here, so how am I gonna get one? Maybe if I just get a small tree in the forest.
"Okay, I'll get dressed and we'll head out, get in something warm!" I told her before getting up out of bed. I watch her as a huge smiles makes its way onto her face and she skips out of the room.
She's so adorable.
---
After I ate breakfast with Cassie and Meredith, Cassie and I left to go on an adventure to look for a Christmas tree.
"Look at all this snow!" Cassie chirped in amazement as she ran around like a child who's seen snow for the first time. As she turned around with her back facing me to admire the snowy forest ahead of us, I bent down and picked up a chunk of snow. Giggling to myself, I chuck the snow at her and it hits her back making her gasp.
"Nova!" she screeches, turning to face me. I throw my head back laughing as she stomped in a joking manner. Before I knew it, she was chucking more then one snowball at me.
"Hey! That's not fair! I only threw one!" I whined making her laugh in return. I picked up another snow ball and threw it at her. Before I knew it, we were chucking handfuls of snow at each other like children. I ran towards her, pushing her into the snow and tumbling down next to her.
We were both a laughing mess and we lay there in the cold snow, although it didn't bother me.
Cassie started moving her legs and arms up and down in the snow and I roll over to pick myself up. She stood up after her weird movements, looking down at what she made before poking my arm. I look at her than look at the snow thing she made.
"Look, Nova, I made me as a fairy, kind of" Cassie giggles. I smile in return.
"What is it like to be a fairy, Nova?" Cassie asks, turning to look over to me.
I take her question into thought. I didn't really know how to explain it. "Well..you get to fly, and you get powers. There's nothing more to it" I say truthfully.
"That sounds fun."
---
I stare at the triangle tree standing in the corner of Merediths living room. It was nice, but very plain. Cassie did tell me they usually have lights and decorations on them, but I wasn't exactly sure where I would get those things.
"Do you fairies not have lights? Decorations that hang?" Cassie said in disbelief. I think for a moment. We do have very small jars with fireflies in them, there mostly used for lanterns though, and I doubt it would look good.
"I know!" Meredith shouts making Cassie and I jump. "Glow trees! They have glowing tree sap in them, remember Nova?"
I nod, furrowing my eyebrows trying my best to remember what she was talking about. Meredith rolls her eyes before holding one finger up, signaling she'll be right back.
This is gonna be harder than I thought, and we still need to get presents.
A couple minutes later the door is swung open, Meredith walking in with her hands full of different items.
"This is gonna be very different" Cassie whispers to herself, loud enough for me to hear. I glance over to her before smiling at her. She was right.
(Yeah cuteness <3 I have nothing to put in this authors note so whatever lol ~Grace)
