CHAPTER SIX: EVEN WHEN YOU THINK
dear jaren,
i know you'd forgive me if you could. you always told me there was nothing i could do to make you hate me and i believe that you meant that. i'm just sorry that you did such an innocent thing and got hurt because of it. i'd warned you but you never took me seriously, baby. i told you to not fall in love with me, that it would only hurt you...look where you are now. that headstone doesn't do you justice, not even the beauty of the sunflowers give you justice. i always told you that you were the prettiest thing i'd ever seen, i hope you know i meant it.
i hope you know i didn't mean to hurt you, i regret that everyday. i'm paying for it now, though i know you wouldn't want me to. god, sweetheart, you were too nice. that friend of yours, david? he wants me dead. he said they were being too forgiving by giving me life in prison instead of death penalty.
i agree with him, you know? they gave me one life sentence and there's absolutely no way that does you justice. you deserve justice, that's why i'm sending this letter up to you, it's my final goodbye.
- j.k.
