Seven weeks. That's been seven weeks since bars, restaurants, clubs and work have been closed. Seven weeks since I've been able to party with my coven (although as witches we're a bit more protected from the virus). Seven weeks of binge watching Netflix and slowly going mad with boredom. After complaining to my best friend about not only running out of things to watch but being bored with the same cliché over and over again, she suggested going into the movie. For weeks, she'd been using a spell that allowed her to enter her favorite movie or show universe as almost like an omnipresent character that isn't seen or heard by any of the characters. It's almost like watching your favorite movie like a live action play, but you can fuck around since none of the characters can see or hear you. Perfect because like me, she's into horror and wouldn't want to be the target of the monsters in the movies since we deal with them enough in the real world.
So, here I am, trying to use the very same spell but for my preferred film The Lost Boys. While this is my absolute favorite film of all time, I do also blame it for my unrealistic expectations of vampires in real life. Unfortunately real vampires are moody, senile, obsessive, and don't suddenly become pretty after their transition.Clad in my days old pjs, I start playing the movie, and recite the spell I learned as it gets to the scene of the movie where Michael, Sam and Lucy are exploring the boardwalk at night. After chanting the spell thrice, I appear on the bustling boardwalk of Santa Carla. As I start walking down the boardwalk, I notice people staring at me. But that can't be, I'm supposed to be omnipresent. As I continue to walk, reciting the spell in my head to check for mistakes, I realized I screwed up and said ego instead of omnis and facepalm. I almost think to go back, when I remember that the only threat in this movie are the vampires. And while that is a bit unsettling, it's not like I haven't dealt with vampires in the real world- and besides, these ones are hotter and seem fun. I quickly look for a secluded, dark alley area and once I find one, I recite a spell to change my outfit to fit with the era.
Now wearing a pair of black jeans, with a black mesh top and black bra underneath, paired with Doc Martens and a black leather jacket . I pull my locs into a bun with one loc hanging down and magic a Nefertiti charm onto it, along with other jewels and charms in my hair and a band of beads along my hips. As I step out of my hiding place I look down at my outfit, satisfied with the look and smile a bit to myself knowing that this was a cute mix of Paul's and Dwayne's outfits.I get back onto the boardwalk, now with confidence and join the concert going on. Scanning the crowd, I quickly find Sam and Michael and thus Star and Laddie. I make my way a little way towards Star, who gives me a small smile before getting back to dancing. Turning around towards the stage, I secretly magic a flask into my hand filled with whiskey and after drinking a few swigs, I begin to let loose and start dancing to the sexy sweaty saxophonist's song.
"Hey, nice moves!" A familiar voice says, from behind me.
I turn around and Star gives me a friendly smile.
"Thanks! Nice outfit!" I compliment back.
For some reason, as a teen, her character annoyed me so much. But as I got older, I started to realize that I identified with her quite a bit as far as being free spirited, relaxed and the type of person that cares deeply for others. Although the film did her a bit dirty by making her appear weak.
"I'm Star, and this is Laddie." She continues in her dreamlike voice, I notice the young boy clinging onto her skirt.
"Nice to meet y'all. I'm Y/n." I respond, suddenly feeling eyes on me.
I turn around to see Michael continuing to stare at Star and sees that she notices it too.
"I better go. It was nice to meet you Y/n." She smiles, but it quite reach her eyes and scurries off before I can respond.
Shrugging, I left the concert and started walking along the boardwalk, until I see a bunch of motorcycles parked right in front of Max's Videos. My face lights up in a smile as I enter the store confidently, walking over to the movie selections as though I was looking for a VHS to take home.
"I only came to watch one thing." I hear Paul's voice say to Maria and he and Marko checks her out.
I then make eye contact with Dwayne and give him a wink as I bite my lip. At first he looks a bit surprised but quickly masks it with a smirk and a casual head nod as though to say hey before he gets kicked out along with the other boys by Max. That's when I see Max offer Lucy a job and I want so badly to tell her not to do it but remember not only would that ruin the movie, but it would make me look crazy and put a target on my back.
As I leave the store, I begin to aimlessly walk down the boardwalk yet again, just to have the boys surround me on their bikes.
"What's a pretty thing like you doing by yourself?" Paul's familiar voice rings out.
