||Chapter 3 : Mom to the Rescue||

EVERGREEN ACADEMY

KAIRAV'S POV

There was a loud commotion in the corridor. The kids were screaming and running to death. Our teacher, Miss Hannah walked towards the door and looked outside.

Strange, snarling sounds were coming from outside and we began chattering about it. Miss Hannah quickly closed the door and started breathing heavily, leaning against the door. She looked scared, very scared. The colour of her face had faded away. Just then, someone started hitting the door to open it.

"Kids....close your mouths and hide under your desks now! Don't make any noise", she ordered us and we did so. She herself hid under her desk.

The hitting on the door began louder and even the noise got louder. The noise was scary, like how in horror movies the ghosts make noises. The door finally fell open and a dozen of scary looking people barged in. They had green eyes, there were scratches all over their faces, the skin was pale, their nerves were visible and had rotten teeth. One of them was our principal. How come she turned into one of these?

"Aaaahhh", a boy shouted scared to death. The scary looking people looked in that direction and started walking towards that boy. I was scared now. I started trembling with fear. As they were about to approach that boy, Miss Hannah threw the alarm clock in one corner of the room and it started ringing. Hearing the sound, the crowd of scary looking people walked towards that corner.

Miss Hannah signalled us to keep calm and she stood up slowly. She pointed at the door and signalled us to exit slowly without making any noise. We did so and she stood at the door. The first kids walked out slowly, I was one of them. Miss Hannah signalled us to go upstairs to the roof as the whole school was flooded with those people, even the playground. We nodded and walked towards the staircase, careful enough not to make a noise.

NAIRA'S POV

I was on my way towards Kairav's school, dreading in fear every minute. Out of those dead, shit smelling people that came out of the ambulance, I noticed two of them to be from Kairav's school. I wanted to reach there as soon as possible. I wanted to make sure my baby is alright.

I tried to call Kartik but he wasn't answering any phone call. Frustrated, I decided to leave him a voice message. I opened his messenger.

"Hi this is KG. Please leave me a message", I heard his voice.

"Kartik...there's some shit going on in this city. People die and become alive. They look like fucking monsters. They feed on the living. I'm on my way to Kairav's school. Reach as fast as you can", I said over the message and sent it to him.

I increased the speed of the car, pressing the accelerator to the fullest extent. Some of those dead, shitty ass people came in front but I wasn't gonna stop so I hit them with the car and killed them. No one's gonna stop me from reaching my son.

"Please be alright baby", I pleaded.

STILL NAIRA'S POV

I reached Kairav's school and was shocked to see its condition. It was the worst affected. I got down my car and rushed towards the gate. Their was utter silence. No one could be seen. Blood was splattered everyone and dead bodies flooded the playground.

"No....this can't be happening! No!!", I screamed and rushed towards the entrance. I was about to push it open that those zombie like people showed thier dirty faces from the other side of the door. They began hitting the door with their hands. They started snarling but their sound couldn't be heard as the glass was sound proof. They were locked. But they saw me and now they were behaving like animals, drooling.

"Mrs. Tanner!!", I said shocked as I noticed that the school's principal was one of them.

I took a few steps back and squated on the ground, holding my head in stress.

"Where's my baby?", I asked myself.

"Mom!!!", I heard Kairav's voice. I stood up and looked here and there confused.

"Where are you Kairav?", I shouted back.

"Mom...look up!!", he said and I looked up to see Kairav, his teacher and other three to four kids. I sighed in relief and smiled brightly. It was such a relief to see my son alright, alive. You won't believe how dreadful imaginations I was getting!

"Kairav baby....are you alright?", I asked walking closer.

"I'm alright mom!!", he shouted back. I held my pendant and muttered a thanks to God,closing my eyes.

"Mrs Goenka....please hurry up, we don't have time. Those people can reach the roof any minute. I want you to bring a ladder. Its in the storeroom", the teacher said pointing at a small, one storey, chamber like building. I nodded looking at her and rushed towards the storeroom. I opened the door and entered inside. As soon as I entered inside, I saw the body of a man torn apart, his eyes still open. I dreaded at that scene but I began searching for the ladder. I finally found it and brought it out, holding it horizontally.

"Mom...hurry up!!", Kairav shouted scared.

"I'm right here baby", I replied and placed the ladder on the ground vertically. I held the two ends firmly.

"You can come down now!", I said holding the ladder firmly. Everyone reached down one by one.

"Mom!!!", Kairav hugged me tightly, crying into my shirt and I engulfed my arms protectively around him.

"I'm right here baby", I said releasing the hug and kissing him all over his face and his hands.

"Mom won't let anything happen to you", I said wiping his tears and he nodded. I stood up at looked at his teacher.

"I'm Miss Hannah....Kairav's teacher", she introduced herself.

"You must've come to know who I am", I said looking down at Kairav as he hugged my legs tightly. Miss Hannah nodded. Just then, the snarling grew louder.

"We need to leave this place as soon as we can!!", she said starting to walk but I stopped her.

"What about other kids?", I asked her.

"They couldn't survive. These are the only one's left. The rest others have turned", she replied looking down at the three children and caressing their hair.

I nodded looking at them. Just then the entrance door broke open and the zombies barged out.

"Shit! We need to go now!!", I said and we started running towards the gate. As we got out, I began to search for my car but it was nowhere to be found.

"Where's my car? I parked it right here!!", I panicked and everyone looked at me worried. The zombie crowd was close.

Just then, a school bus stopped right in front of us and the doors opened.

"Hey you people....get your butts into the bus now!!", someone shouted from inside and all of us got inside the bus just in time before the crowd could reach us. The bus started and we drove past the school. We sat on the seats and sighed in relief. I hugged Kairav close to my chest and kissed on top of his head.

"Who are you?", Hannah asked the driver suspiciously. The driver chuckled.

"The man that got you out of that shit! Your saviour", he replied.

I looked at him confused.

"The Sheriff", he said turning back.
