||Chapter 10: Run Away||

KARTIK'S POV

"Where's Kairav Kartik? I can't find him anywhere...he was-he was just standing beside me now", Naira said as she started panicking and I loosened my grip on her, stepping back.

"Where did he go then?", I murmured and looked around for him.

"Did anyone of you guys see him going anywhere?", I asked others and they nodded in no.

"Where's my baby?", Naira started sobbing and I held her arms.

"Naira...we'll find him. He mustn't have gone too far", I assured her but I was imagining about the deadliest and worst possibilities that could happen at that moment.

"I'll go with you", Watson said and I nodded.

"I'll stay here looking after these people. Somebody has to stay back in case he returns", Thomas said and I nodded.

"Hey Kartik....look I can see footprints"  Watson said pointing at the wet soil to show some prints of soles of shoe heading into the woods.

"Come on....lets go", I said holding Naira's hand and heading into the woods along with Watson.

KAIRAV'S POV

I ran and ran and ran and continued running far away from those people. I didn't need dad. I could be fine without him. Anyways, he wouldn't be able to protect us. Like he wasn't able to protect Anna. She died. We're all gonna die. We're all gonna be eaten by those biters.

He doesn't care about us anymore. He doesn't care about me. He doesn't love me anymore. That is the reason he shouted at me today. He wouldn't care even if I died.

I was tired now with all the running. I stopped and bent to hold my trembling knees, gasping for breath. My throat was sore and I had brought no water. My eyes began dripping because of the direct sunlight. I was sweating all over. I had no idea how did I come deep into the forest. I fell down on the ground and stretched my arms out.

Just then, I heard the bushes snapping and the leaves rustling. I wanted to stand up and run but couldn't get up as I was too weak. I heard snarling and growling noises from behind the bush and soon they started getting louder. Just then, a biter entered and started walking towards me. My heart beat raced faster. I whimpered and started moving backwards in fear. The biter advanced towards me and I kept moving back but soon I reached the edge. I could feel no ground. There was only air. I looked back to see nothing. It was the end of the cliff. The biter had approached way too closer and was all over me. I kept pushing it away, but he continued snarling and growling in front of my face. The biter's saliva fell on my face. Its smell was horrible. He was about to bite me in the neck.

"Help me!!!", I shouted for help.

KARTIK'S POV

"Kairav!!!", I shouted for him as we went deep inside the forest.

"Baby!!!!!", Naira shouted with sobbing voice, as tears rolled down her cheeks. I was holding her all the while.

"Help Me!!!!!", we heard Kairav's voice from nowhere and a distant gunshot. Everything went quiet after that.

"Kairav!!! It was him....", Naira said looking at me and I nodded.

"This way", Watson walked ahead of us and we followed him.

STRANGER'S POV

I shot right through the skull of the zombie as it tried to bite the kid. Strangely,  my aim was appropriate and the zombie dropped down dead.

Some useful thing happened after playing Resident Evil for years...
