Present day
Dark clouds gathered above, whilst the wind whined a familiar tune. Rain drops so delicate, came crashing down joining puddles on the soft earth.

The chilly breeze picked up the ends of my raven curls asking for a dance as the leaves around the gravestone tried to waltz, in hopes of bringing up my mood. The stone was bare and cold but it held the name of a person I held dear.

A single tear escaped my eye running down my freckled cheek, and so I quickly wiped it off, for
I was no stranger to loss. I had been through it before and I would get through it again. However this time it was different, this time there wasn't a cause of death, this time I had a burning feeling in my stomach that told me I had to find out.

So not only as a detective but also as a girlfriend, I was going to find out who did this to him. Even though there was little to no evidence and the medical examiner's report said cause of death was a heart attack. Deep down inside, I had a feeling and so far my feelings had never failed me.

"I'll get you the justice you deserve." I whispered whilst my voice broke.

With that I took a last deep breath and painfully rose to my feet, whilst placing his well-earned badge against the gravestone showing the world the honourable detective he was.

ROTHAM POLICE DEPT.

I ambled inside, ignoring the glances of the many eyes fixated on my face. When I got to his table, I stopped and ran my hands against the mahogany wood, where the initials N + L lay carved which was a teenage action of devotion, like some would say but still a cute one.

FLASHBACK

"What are you doing? you idiot." I mumbled.

Nicholas continued to ignored me and carried on finishing the second letter before triumphantly exclaiming,
"Done! You like it?" as he winked at me.

"Your a weirdo Nico," I giggled, " but I guess it's sweet."

His lime green eyes with floating specs of hazel caught my gaze, whilst a slow smile formed reaching all the way to his eyes. When it finally did, a look of adoration flashed across his face. He continued gazing at me, never looking away.

"Enough that's creepy, lover boy." A cheery but deep voice spoke.

Kenji.
He had come to drop off my lunch, as I had forgotten yet again. He was my best friend and adoptive brother. Yes, he's basically an all- in- one but that's because he's the closest family I had. Both of us were both adopted and grew up together, raised by a foster family. I could have never wished for a better partner in crime, Kenji was my rock and even though we were the same age, I felt like he was my older brother, even though he acted like a kid all the time. He was the softest, most understanding man I had ever met and we've only ever had each other so we have been through it all and seriously couldn't be any tighter.

As far as looks go though, we didn't look like siblings at all. Kenji came from a Japanese descent and had porcelain skin which contrasted with his deep dark raven eyes and floppy ebony hair. He always had his signature silver rimmed, circular glasses on the tip of his nose.
Whereas, I had a tawny acorn-brown complexion and simple almond eyes. Along with thick, curly jet-black hair. That's right, complete opposites.

Nico snorted, " You forgot your lunch again? aww and dad had to bring it."

I rolled my eyes, and then a piercing shrill known as the alarm rang.
