Rose's P.O.V.
I was in-between dreaming and reality, every so often fading fast, before awakening again. I couldn't tell whether I was asleep or alive. Instead, I pondered over Ben, and yesterday out in the woods together. That was fun, and I had the sneaking suspicion that a kiss was gonna come in soon...
It was silent, and not the scuff of marble as the Proxies patrolled along the corridors could be heard. It was just too impossible to fall asleep, especially how much I was worrying about the Fourth Trial which was going to occur the next day! All was completely silent. But I singled out one noise eventually - Footsteps.
I couldn't be assed to wake up, and I must have dozed off yet again, and the next time I opened my eyes a fraction of an inch, I almost jumped out of my skin... A masked figure. I screamed, but a hand clamped over my mouth and I couldn't even bite it, because the hand dug into my jaw, sealing my teeth. I let out a terrified and muffled shriek of fright from between the fingers, the figure completely motionless. It wasn't Masky, DEFINITELY not Masky.
The form was wearing a dark hoodie, and I just looked into a blank moss-green mask. One hand wrapped around my throat and pressed down. I stopped screaming, and done the thing most tough, kidnapped and on-brink-of-murder girls would do. I headbutted her like a boss. The figurehead screamed in agony, and then I realized it was a GIRL. However not just because of the high-pitched scream, but the long stream of girl's hair which rolled out of the hoodie, completely bedraggled. The figure sprinted at top-speed out of the bedroom door, and I lunged after her, half-dead from sleep, but still running. When we entered the cold, dimly lit corridor from my bedroom, she sped with pace down the stairs, and I was stopped by a yellow-hooded figure with a mask-clad face. And an illuminate red frown.
"Hoodie?! Move, she... tried to... kill... girl" I couldn't even speak, my mind was so messed up right now, slipping between slumber and consciousness. I wanted to give in and curl up right then and there. But It wasn't going to happen - ESPECIALLY now I was brutally attacked by some random...
Hoodie placed a clad arm around my shoulder. "C-c-come R-rose. You m-must g-go to sleep now. N-noting to worry about. I w-w-w-w-would've seen it." He ushered me back into my bedroom, my heart still thundering undeniably. Suddenly Xandra appeared at the door, clutching a china plate full to the brim with cookies, and a glass of chocolate milk. She was about to speak, then thought better of it as she examined my current state.
Xandra was in her usual oversized Tee-shirt plus leggings work, and her toffee-colour flyaway hair trailed around her comely face, wide awake. "Cookies?" She offered, quite confused. "I just went down to fetch some since I couldn't get to sleep, and then there was Jeff and all... Oh well." I shook my head and clung to her elbow, absolutely desperate. "Xandra, you saw Her right?! Tell me you saw her! That wasn't a dream. It was so real.. It.. you HAVE to believe me!" But no one did. They DIDN'T believe me. Xandra pulled me into bed, dazed. Hoodie had long gone. "Rose - No one's out there, you have to stop worrying!" She handed me a cookie. She couldn't live without them. "Hoodie went and alerted all the Proxies to make sure all the other Selected are tucked up in bed, and so far NONE of them are out wandering around on a killing mission! Just go to sleep, you'll be okay."
I knew I WASN'T okay. "Xandra. It was DEFINITELY a girl. And she was real.. please believe me!" Xandra gave me a weak smile, her hair lit up in a ghostly shadow as it was dappled in the open moonlight. "I really want to believe you Rose. Just this once though, I'm not quite sure..." She curled up onto her bed, and in-between mouthfuls of cookie, she switched on the portable T.V. Masky brought in the other day. " I think it's just the stress of the Trials. You think you're gonna die, and you keep hallucinating. Don't' worry so much, Rose. You have everyone on your side."
I huffed, facing the other way and slowly drifting asleep. She wasn't just some dream girl. She was real. She was one of the Selected as well, I just knew it. And they were planning to get me killed off, weren't they? I have competition now.
And now that I think of it; Slender DID say that the other day, didn't he? "Be wary in your slumber, as I will not disqualify competitors who kill other's after hours."
Someone wanted me out of the way, I knew it.
