Zombie or Living?

I walked back to the shed, where I'd sleep. It's kinda sad once I think about it, yet it's better than nothing. I sit on my worn out mattress, it isn't at its greatest condition, yet works well enough for me. I've lived here for a while so I've gotten pretty used to it.

The dark laden sky has been my only joy in life. I try to see the good in what life has left, but i still feel empty. All these stars, they shine so brightly every night. Back then, I never paid much attention to my surroundings, I was always cooped up inside a house. I wish I would've acknowledged how beautiful the night sky is. Although, the nights also can be cold and merciless. That adds a veil of mystery to it. Harsh, but still one of the most beautiful sights I've seen. I always feel calm at these times. I know it seems like a small thing, but I'm grateful for it. The black and beautiful skies always remind me that there's good things, and that I'll keep reaching for them.

When will the good things happen though? I can't hold myself together forever. I'm not as independent as I thought, I can't do this alone.

I laid down on my mattress. I sighed. Guess I'll just try to fall asleep and think about tomorrow..

Tomorrow... I wondered what that zombie is doing. Probably just roaming about. Should I continue to let them be? Or should I just shoot them already? Hell, I don't know why I even spared them in the first place. Something was probably wrong with me. I must've been too desperate for company. It seems unbelievable that another person could find me. Maybe tomorrow I can find that zombie..

Soon I fall asleep and everything fades to black.

A sound wakes me up. It sounded like something hit the shed. Wow, aren't I glad that it hasn't fallen over yet! Didn't expect this wood to be so durable. Anyways, what the fuck? Who could've been near my shed? Could it be?... But what would they even want? Oh, to infect me, is that right? I'm awfully sure that they wouldn't want anything else, no doubt, they wouldn't have the brain cells to!

I sluggishly sit up, and look around the small area which I call my home. My shed is pretty small. Yet, large enough to fit a mattress and my resources to survive. I guess I should figure out what made that sound. It's not very often to hear a random sound like that! After all this is basically a lonely wasteland..

I lazily slipped on a hoodie and unlocked my door. Took a while because I made the locks a bit complicated. Better safe than sorry. I don't want zombies marching in here while I sleep after all.

The door opened and I grab my shotgun, always have to be armed.. I leave the shed and start walking about. Carefully inspecting my surroundings. Everything seems the same as it was yesterday. Though, I felt like a zombie should've ambushed me by now. I don't know, it seems quieter than usual. Dunno how that works but today just feels off. I walk towards the empty buildings, gripping my precious shotgun in one hand. You could faintly see graffiti on the worn out walls. I'd assume it was here before the apocalypse and no one bothered to clean it up. I remembered when this place was full of people.. I walked past the walls, and slowly make my way through the buildings, careful not to make too much noise. A zombie definitely could hear me if I accidentally made a sound.

Oh. This was the place I found that specific zombie. I have to admit, they looked different from others I've seen, yet I'm pretty sure they are a zombie. I'm not saying that just because I don't believe another person would find me! I wonder why they were even standing over here, I make my way to the spot they where standing.

What? Were these letters on the walls before? I refuse to believe a zombie would write this, they wouldn't have the brain cells! Otherwise this is a very... unique zombie.

It's bold to assume that specific zombie would actually write this, but it.. seems likely. The letters aren't very clean. They seem shaky and I believe it's been written with some sort of black ink. Well thank god it isn't blood. Though, I can't exactly tell what this spells, sorta looks like it spells out "pond". There's more letters but I can't make them out, but come on, well doesn't this sound sketchy? Yes.. I've actually seen a pond somewhere around here, occasionally I would sit near the pond and gaze at the stars, but what if someone is luring me there?

Even so, I still don't know what these marks are supposed to mean. Would it be smart to go to the pond? Man, what if I walk straight into an ambush? I don't know, I guess I can risk it, after all I only live once.

Soon, I walk away from the buildings. The pond isn't too far, yet takes a bit to walk from my shed. I have a small feeling this won't end well, but I'm just too curious.. As I walk from the buildings to the pond, the soil gets a bit damper. The plants also look a bit healthier over here. Probably since there's a source of water here. There was a park here, but everything is mostly wrecked. Soon, I'm near the pond. It's an average sized looking pond. Though I don't know how deep the water is. Hm, I don't see anything particularly suspicious. Oh f—

Five zombies bolt towards me, all coming in the same direction. I automatically get ready to shoot. Boom. Straight through the head. One of the zombies fall to the ground. It shrilly screams yet it starts getting more faint until I could hear it no longer. The rest kept running towards me. Damn, maybe I should've brought a bat. Oh sh—

A zombie lunges towards me, attempting to take a chunk out of me. I hastily jump out of the way, and shoot them, getting blood on my hoodie. Ew rotten zombie blood. Ignoring my hoodie, I look around, there's two zombies. Where did the other one go—

Oh, fuck. I quickly turn around, without warning, it tackles me. Oh god, I can't let it bite me! I fall to the ground and the zombie snaps at me, I hold my shotgun in between me and the zombie, blocking them from getting to my face. Unfortunately I can't shoot them in this position. The two other zombies run towards me. GOD DAMMIT I'M NOT DYING HERE! The zombie starts fighting back, putting all their strength in trying to lunge at me. My arms are getting tired, yet I use all my effort to push them away from me, the two other zombies are getting closer to me. Thank god they are slow zombies, but my luck will run out in a few seconds.

The zombie angrily bites down on my shotgun. Okay, what the fuck do I do! I try pushing them back but they are so committed to infecting me! Fuck! I block myself with the shotgun, making sure it can't bite me. Suddenly, I hear a zombie being swiftly hit in the head. Smack!

Sure that's very distracting and odd, but I also have to make sure this zombie doesn't rip my fucking face off! I forcefully shove them back while hearing another smack in the distance. I quickly get up before it pounces on me again. Boom. Shot. God damn that was way too close. What was that sound I heard though? I turn around as fast as I could. Holy shit.

This can't be real. The two other zombies laid unconscious, and there they were, that zombie, standing right in front of me. Bloodstained baseball bat in hand, and the look of devotion in their dark, lively eyes. They had saved me?...
