Adelice woke up in a bed, but couldn’t open her eyes. She felt as if something was keeping her eyes closed. Then she heard two voices.
“-need to wake her up!” A old, firm-sounding voice said.
“She needs as much time to rest as she can. She almost used up her life source using magic in the science hallway!”
“Have you examined her as much as you can while she’s asleep?” The old voice said exasperatedly.
“Yes. I have done all I can and I’d appreciate it if you could step out. I’ll let you know if anything new comes up.”
The old voice was about to say something, which was indicated by a little gasp when they opened their mouth, but just sighed. Adelice heard footsteps and then silence.
“I know you’re awake, kid. You can open your eyes.”
Adelice slowly opened her eyes to see a girl a little older than her with warm brown eyes and jet black hair.
“Hi.” Adelice managed to sputter out.
“Hey.” The girl said with a smile.
“Have you seen my brother?” Adelice asked anxiously. The girl just laughed.
“Aaron told me that would most probably be the first thing you said.”
She faintly remembered what had happened with him. She had started to feel weak and the world swayed. Suddenly she was being carried gently and then blacked out.
“Oh! I forgot to introduce myself! My name’s Pree.”
“I’m-”
“ I know who you are, Adelice.” She said with a smile that plainly said that Pree knew much more than Adelice thought. This momentarily fazed Adelice. At that moment Pree laughed again and said, “Okay sorry. That was a bit creepy.” Then Adelice remembered her family.
“What happened? Where am I? Is my family okay?! Wh-”
“Calm down! I’ll answer your questions soon.” Adelice didn’t notice till now but she was in a hospital bed in a room that didn’t look like it would be in a hospital. The room was about the size of a hospital room but completely barren except for the bed. Pree was standing at the foot of the bed with a sheet of glass in her hands about the size of a tablet. The edges where her hands were were covered with metal. The glass had a bluish tinge and Adelice could see that there were digital boxes on the glass with different things in them. One had what looked like a heartbeat. One had blood pressure. Then Pree looked down at the glass and touched one of the boxes. It expanded to fit the entire glass and Pree smiled a knowing smile again as if she knew something about Adelice Adelice didn’t know herself.
“This is called a Glass. I’m monitoring your body with this. I can see that you were confused while you looked around the room, so I’m guessing you thought you were in a hospital because of the bed, but then second guessed yourself because there is nothing in the room. When you looked at the glass, you were curious, so I’ll tell you that this is a tablet. Right now it is functioning as everything in a hospital room. That’s why the room is empty.”
Adelice was left speechless. Her mouth was open as she tried to process what she heard. It was like she had transported into the future. She was silent for a moment before finding her voice.
“Could you please tell me what happened?”
“Sure. Well, let me think how to explain this. You see, when you learn about us it will make more sense b-”
“Just tell me.”
“Okay. Well, You were under the cage and then you used magic to transport it over Aaron. Honestly, I don’t blame you. He can be very annoying. But when you did that, you used up a lot of energy in your body. You basically almost used up your life source. When you were unconscious, Aaron carried you inside and caused a ruckus because everything thought he killed you. On accident, that is. And again, I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case. He brought you to me and you have been in this room for the past 24 hours. Oh and I almost forgot. Your brother is okay; he’s in the daycare with E. He misses you, but he is happy. When you were asleep, we brought him here to show that you were alright.”
