The throne room was filled with people dancing and enjoying themselves with festivities. Music filled the room, dancers dancing to the beat expertly. Servants walking around serving the guests. Everybody seemed to be having an enjoyable time except the Pharaoh himself.
Pharaoh Atem sat on his throne with a forced smile. He was glad everyone was having a good time, but he just couldn't. He was worried about assassins showing up at any time. Atem knew that he shouldn't worry due to who was his body guard. His childhood best friend, Midna Alui, was an excellent guard and a wonderful friend. Every once in a while, he would glance over at Midna every chance he got. The said female was standing on his left, looking around the room calmly, keeping an eagle eye out for an assassin. Feeling violet eyes watching her, Midna looks at the Pharaoh fully while smiling softly.
"Stop worrying, sire." The brunette heard the Pharaoh sigh and she chuckles. "I'm here and I have an eagle eye on the crowd. I will protect you."
"Yes, I know. I just can't help it, my friend. You should know this by now." Feeling a hand on his shoulder, Atem looked up at Midna and blinked in surprise. Her happy expression went to a cold and hard look. Her hazelnut eyes blank and narrowed slightly. Her lips in a straight line and tight.
Atem looked around the room amongst the people but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. People were still enjoying themselves, having wine and eating the wonderful food. Did she spot something that he didn't?
Looking to his left again, Atem noticed that she wasn't there anymore. Alarmed, the Pharaoh started to get up until he felt wet substance hit his face and chest. Blinking slightly, he looks down to find crimson staining his dark complexion. Looking up, a man was standing in front of Atem with a sword protruding from his chest. The Pharaoh caught a glimpse of chocolate brown hair swing back behind the man. Knowing it was Midna, he relaxed slightly until he saw silver out of the corner of his eye from his right. Atem gulped and eyes went wide.
"Pharaoh!" Midna threw herself between the blade and Atem's neck. Catching the non-poisonous blade in her right shoulder, taking her left hand, she grabs a small dagger from her leg holster and plunged the blade into the man's neck. Crimson liquid splattered across Midna's front from head to toe.
"Midna!" Set and Mahad came rushing over and pulling the now dead man off of the brunette. Midna pulled the blade from her shoulder and grunted.
"I'm fine." Turning to the Pharaoh, Midna started looking him over with her un-tainted hand until she felt a hand grab it. The female looked into violet eyes and stopped. She felt a cloth being pressed against her wound while wincing and hissing.
"You are hardly fine with that kind of wound, Midna." The said female chuckles and grab shis hand. Atem pulls her away to find Mahad's apprentice.
The two walked towards the room where Mana is usually poking away at her studies. Midna was starting to feel light headed due to the wound in her shoulder. Tugging on Atem's arm, Midna leans her hands against her knees and pants slightly. Mahad runs up and picks Midna up.
"Do not bend over, my friend or your head would have mrt the hard ground." Mahad looks to the brunette and chuckles at her pissed off look.
"Hmph. Please. It's not my first battle, Mahad. I can handle myself." Midna goes to cross her arms until she feels a searing pain in her right shoulder. Whimpering, she grips her shoulder.
"I have to heal her myself. I'm afraid there is more to the wound than what we can see." Mahad rushes off to his room with the female guardian in his arms.
Pharaoh Atem sighs and rubs his face. He felt a presence besides him and looked up. Set laid a hand on his cousin's shoulder and smiles softly. He knew how much Midna meant to Atem.
"She'll be fine, my Pharaoh. Midna is a tough one."
"I just hope it doesn't get her killed."
