Kicking my board up into my hand, I untangled the keys from my bag and opened the front door. I already regretted coming home.

My dad drunk, my mom red with anger.

I quickly crept up the stairs trying not to get myself entangled in their conversation. Shutting the door behind me I dropped my bag on the ground and crawled on top of my bed. My phone buzzed signaling a call. I pressed it to my ear, "Hello?"

"Hi, is this Brynne?"

"Yes, and who is this?" I asked running my tongue over my chapped lips.

"It's Hayden, I was wondering if you wanted to come over and help me with my song for music, I'm a little rusty on the guitar and I need your expertise" He asked with anticipation in his voice.

I bit my lip, "Yeah I can do that"

"Great, I'll come by and pick you up in ten"

"Who told you my address? And number too?" I asked puzzled.

He chuckled, "Your friend Elizabeth has a big mouth."

I shook my head and made a mental note to talk to her Monday, "Okay thanks, I'll see you then"

Pressing the end button I tossed my phone onto my bed before walking over to my closet. I pulled out an old knit sweater and threw it over my tank top, then began lacing up my black vans.

I grabbed my guitar bag and board as I walked out my door, and made my way towards Hayden who was parked outside already.

He greeted me with a smile, then pushed the door open from inside the car. "Hey, thanks for doing this"

I shook my head, settling my board and guitar at my feet. "It's no problem"

I caught him smile once more before, he turned the keys in the ignition. Soon enough we were at his house.

I unlocked my door and stepped out, my guitar around my back and board in hand.

"So did you pick a song?" I asked, tapping my phone against my side.

"You really got me by Van Halen," he said turning away, "You probably never heard of them"

I pushed him back, "Van Halen is my favorite band, well besides Green Day," I smiled and laughed, "I will forever choose Sammy Hagar over David Lee Roth any day"

He rolled his eyes, "The question is who wouldn't prefer Sammy over, David ?"

We talked about Van Halen all the way to his room where we started practicing. He picked up his guitar and pulled a pick from his pocket, and just began strumming. I picked up my guitar and grabbed a pick from my bag also.

"Okay so show me the opening cords," I said looking over at Hayden. I watched as he set his fingers than began playing, no doubt he had played this before.

He finished the opening solo and I looked at him shocked, "You don't even need my help you liar" He pushed back his hair with his free hand, "I don't need your help with the extra cords, I need you to join me in the song"

I raised my eyebrow, "like what, vocals? Guitar?" He laughed, "Both if possible"

I scoffed, "I don't even sing"

"Now you're the one lying to me," he laughed, "c'mon please?"

"Okay fine, you got a deal. But you have to sing with me for my song too. Got it?"

He gave me a mocking salute, "yes ma'am"
