(NARUTO) 1~ Itachi Uchiha

A/N: This takes place when Itachi is in the Anbu, before the Uchiha clan massacre.

WARNING: NONE. 

I woke up to my mom yelling. It took me a second to register what she was saying. 

'It's seven already, what are you doing?!' 

Shit. 

I was a whirlwind as I got dressed and ran out of the house. I was extremely late for my ANBU meeting. And no one has ever heard of an ANBU being late. I am so going to die. 

I reached the meeting-place out of breath and sweaty. It was at the outskirts of the village and was secluded, so my team could discuss the plan of action and share information without being disturbed. 

I looked around, wondering if they had left without the second in command. Itachi, the captain, was definitely going to kill me. He was sweet but kinda strict about this kinda stuff. Thank god we were good friends because otherwise I would definitely be reported. 

I decided to head to the location we had originally discussed, hoping there had been no last-minute change of plans. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, though. The targets often moved. 

I travelled faster than I normally would, hoping to catch up to my team. They shouldn't be that far. After a few minutes, I sensed them ahead. 

I landed on a branch next to Itachi. 'Where are the targets?' I asked breathlessly. I could sense his glare from under his mask. 

'They will soon be coming down that hill and crossing this path. They're bandits that loot small villages on the outskirts of Konoha. They are dangerous because apparently, they possess some sort of Kekkei-Genkai,' he said. 

Of course, he would tell me everything I needed to know to face an A-Class mission in three sentences. 

After an hour of waiting, the Bandits were in sight. We had been in an ambush position for a long time, and I wanted to let loose and go home. 

Itachi gave a silent signal, and we all attacked the crew of six simultaneously. They stilled, and in that microsecond, disappeared. I landed and looked around. 

'Are they using genjutsu?' I asked Itachi. He shook his head. I wore a worried expression under my mask. It was unheard of for six people to disappear. Their loot was gone too. 

But I looked down and spotted six trails of footprints leading away from a bewildered group of Leaf ANBU. I looked at Itachi, but he was already on it. I gestured to the rest of the group and they attacked too. 

But it was difficult fighting an invisible opponent. I attacked with my katanas and Justus, but they would simply dodge. I got a bad cut on my back as my opponent toyed with me. Itachi had taken three down, his Sharingan helped predict movements, even of invisible opponents. 

After a minute of constant fighting. I surprised my opponent by launching a fireball Jutsu. He went down. My teammates took care of the other two. We ensured no one escaped. 

I walked towards the line of trees and leaned my shoulder against it. The wound on my back was hurting badly, and I knew I needed to take care of it. But I didn't want anyone to worry. 

'I'll go get you guys some water,' I said, well aware that no one actually needed water. I just needed an excuse to grab the supply bag, which held a first aid kit. I walked to a stream that was rather far from my team and started taking my vest and mask off. I was wearing a net liner underneath and bandages covered my chest.

I could feel the blood running down my back, but it was hard to press something against it to stop the flow since it was in a very awkward place for me to reach. It also hurt very much when I moved. I could feel myself getting faint as I struggled to treat myself.
