chapter two

     The second I walked through the door I ran to my room slamming and locking the door. There is so much stuff going on in my brain right now. What if she does cancel the job! Is Jaya ok is she still at the quarry soaking wet? What's my mom going to do? Am I going to get grounded? I just want to scream. Then there was a knock at the door.

     "McKenna open the door!" My mom yelled pounding on the door. "No, if I let you in your going to ground me." There was a silence. "McKenna please open the door im not mad. I just want to talk." I slowly unlocked the door. She didn't want to talk. Instead she stomped in and took the phone off of my night stand? Then she left. Leaving me in silence.

     I needed to find a way to contact Jaya without a phone. About ten minutes later I remembered my walkie talkie that's been under my bed for two years. Jaya always has hers on her, she better answer.

     I claimed under my bed with a flashlight. I found the walkie under a pile of old papers. I quickly grabbed it and tried to get out from under the bed. I was stuck I should've known this has happened multiple times before. I tried to climb out for about five minutes then expected defeat and turned the walkie on. Surprisingly it wasn't dead.

     "Hello, Jaya! Do you copy!"

                 (Jaya's POV)

     I was riding home from the quarry I heard my walkie start talking (I'm so fucking smart like oh my god). I quickly pulled over to the nearest bench and began rummaging through my crowded backpack to find my walkie. I thought to myself the only person that still uses their walkie is Elijah and I.

     I soon found it after taking multiple books, a hoodie, and my Walkman out of the backpack. It was McKenna?

     "Yes I copy, what are you doing on your walkie you haven't used it in years, over" I said putting everything back into my backpack. "I.. um... We have a situation" she said. I soon got back on my bike and started riding down the street. "What kind of situation, McKenna what did you do, and whenever you finish what your saying please say over, over." I said getting on my bike. "So my mom took my phone that's why I'm using my walkie, over"

     "You still have not answered my question, over" I replied zooming through the empty streets of Derry, Maine

     "Um.. can you just come over and see for yourself the window is unlocked, over"

     Fuck, what the fuck did she do. "Ok I'll be over in a few, over and out".

                   (3rd person)

     Just a few minutes later Jaya made it to the Wolfhard residence, McKenna told her to call it that. Jaya couldn't help but wonder what McKenna did this time, Jaya once helped her get unstuck from a chair and another time she got her hair stuck in a meat grinder and Jaya had to cut it out and hide it from McKenna's mom.

     Jaya hopped off her bike and kicked the stand down but that didn't work the bike just fell over "damnit". She just left it there and began to make her way to McKenna's cracked window. From what she could see so far McKenna was stuck under her damn bed.

     "What the hell McKenna, what did you do." Jaya said climbing into the window.

     "I was looking for my walkie so I went under my bed to find it, and I found it but I'm also stuck" she mumbled.

     "You're an idiot" Jaya replied. "Well are you going to help me?!" McKenna said wiggling like a distressed worm. "I suppose, why is it always me getting you out of these situations?" Jaya asked grabbing both her legs and tugged as hard as I could.
