"Night Howler?" I snort, taking a shot of tequila. It went down, but barely. It felt like liquid fire going down my esophagus. I guess it was too late to take that terrible decision back. "That's the name of this place?"
"Oh shut up, Arya." Katie responds, shoving a few fries in her mouth and bouncing to the beat in the booth. After we got inside, Trisha and Rebekah left us to go dance with Jaime.
"You know you could go dance if you want," I respond, "I am completely fine here."
I didn't want to tell her that nearly every person in this bar was looking at our party. It was like they were sort of annoyed? Katie stirred her drink, taking me in. She licked the stir and shot the vodka cranberry back.
"No you're not," She criticized. "I know that look, it is the Arya-would-rather-be-anywhere-but-here look."
"It just feels like this bar is normally exclusive," I whisper. "Kinda like certain gay bars, where the population is predominantly gay men."
"Yeah, I thought that too at first." Katie contemplates, picking at her cuticles. "But it said on the website it was open to humans and werewolves."
I take in our surroundings. Unlike the outside, the inside of the bar was more updated. It gave off a much more punk feel. The floors were unbelievably sticky, and the black booths were made so you could easily stand up and walk to the stage that held the DJ booth in the corner. The only lights were near the bar, or the multicolored lights scattered around the room from the DJ corner.
"This could be a radical space," I supply, "and we could just be ruining it."
Katie gives me one of her most exasperated looks yet, "That's it, we are going to go dance."
She stands and holds out her hand. I look at her hand and back up at her face.
"Okay I take it back." I plead. I was not about to dance with her in front of a bunch of werewolves.
"Nope, no takesies backsies." She laughs as she locks her hand around my wrist and pulls me out to the dance floor.
It took a few songs to realize we were being watched more than usual since we arrived. Once the DJ played Katie's song pick, a group of men--werewolves--came inside. They all wore black, tattoos littering the skin they had exposed. Before I got a good look at them, Katie pulled me into the bathroom.
"Can you believe you didn't want to dance?!" Katie screamed as she locked herself into a stall.
I washed my hands and looked at myself in the mirror. I could still feel the bass from the club in my body, trying desperately to stay still as I gripped both sides of the bathroom sink. My body swayed back and forth despite my efforts. Jaime bought us all nearly five rounds of shots, then Katie wanted us to split a fishbowl before we got to my recent shot of tequila and her vodka cran. At least we stuck to liquor tonight?
I started laughing at that, slowly curling into myself as I fell to the floor.
"Oh my God, you're TRASHED!" Katie giggled, stepping over my body to wash her hands. "I'm so proud of myself, I'm just too good."
"You disgust me." I protest, trying to get up by pulling on her free arm. I almost pull her down with me, but Katie only grins ear to ear as she helps me up. She responds by pulling down my dress that had inched up my thighs and pushing me out the door.
I collide with literal rock. It takes me a few seconds to comprehend that my hands are not touching rock, but an actual body. A man's body. I gasp, looking from my hands on his chest to the face of this man. Wow, a pretty man.
