Over a week has past. Elijah has been sick the first days so I spend a lot of time at home talking with him about stuff. He told me about his mother who passed when he was a kid and I told him about some of my memories about my dad. We have started to get close. Andrew took me out shopping for decoration for my room, so now I have a lot of pillows and candles. I haven't really talked with my mom; she works a lot and doesn't have a lot of time off. I haven't seen Jeremy at school, but I finally learned the name on all four boys. The last one I never knew who was turned out the be a guy named Benjamin and he has been the only one over at the house lately. I think I saw Jeremy one time in the hall at school and Mason at the cafeteria. But Benjamin seems very nice. Andrew said something about all of us going to Jeremy's parents' house to eat dinner and I got told I must wear something a little formal and I don't own anything like that. I only have one pair of shoes, some old vans.
"What are you thinking about Oli" Elijah asked.
"I don't know what to wear tomorrow" I told him. He started smiling at me, he looked like a cartoon with a lightbulb over his head.
"What" I asked.
"Come with me" he said and started leaving the living room. He walked past the downstairs bathroom and down to my mother and Andrews bedroom.
"What are you doing" I asked hopeless, I know he is not going to tell me.
"Just wait and see" he said. He opened the closet and started looking at the bottom of it. Where he found a blue box with the text the first date written over it. He opened the box and took a blue summer dress and some white ballerina shoes.
"I have seen that dress somewhere before" I said shocked.
"You have" he asked.
"I found the box and the dress a couple of days after they moved in together" he told.
"Oh my god Eli, one of my photos in my room" I said and ran upstairs. I ran back to Elijah.
"Look this is my mom on her first date with my dad. She was my age back then. They were high school sweethearts" I told him and showed him the picture.
"She's going to kill me if she sees me in that dress" I told him.
"I can take the blame" he told me. I started shaking my head.
"There is a letter in here" he told me and handed me. I looked at the letter without opening it. Am I to scared to read it? What if I say anything about them and why she abandoned me?
"Are you going to read it" Elijah asked.
"No" I told him. We packed the dress away again and went back to the living room. We only sat down when Andrew and my mom came back in.
"Hi kids. We bought pizza back home" Andrew said. We all went to the kitchen and sat down.
"Janet, can I ask you something" Elijah said.
"Sure" she answered.
"That blue dress you have in your closet; can Olivia borrow that for tomorrow" he asked. I kicked him under the table. She looked over at me.
"I have been saving that for the day you would tell me you were going on your first date" she told me and placed a hand over mine.
"Let's find it now! I want to see you in it" she said.
"But we're eating honey" Andrew said confused.
"The pizza can wait; this is important dear" she said and dragged me to the room. I've never seen her this happy. She pulled out the box gave me the dress and rushed me to the bathroom so I could change. I put the dress on. I don't know how to react right now. I'm speechless right now. I look so much like my mother did. I have never owned a dress like this. I never even tried one on. I opened the bathroom door and slowly walked to the kitchen. I am shaking. I stepped into the kitchen and all six eyes looked at me. My mom started tearing up.
"Did I do something" I asked her nervously.
"No of course not, you look gorgeous" she said.
"Can I hug you" she added nervously. I just stood there for a while. I threw my hands around and hugged so tight. I haven't hugged her I years. I couldn't handle it, the tears started rolling down my cheeks.
"Wait we're missing something" my mom said and ran to her bedroom. She came out with the shoes in her hand and the other one closed like she's hiding something. I took the shoes on. Elijah looked at me and smiled.
"It looks good" he told me.
"One last thing" my mom said and handed me a little jewelry box. I opened it and it was some old gold earrings with a little diamond in each.
"No, I can't take this" I told her.
"Yes, you can, I have been saving this for you, since you were four years old" she told me. Really saving, so why abandon me but still save this for me.
"Why are we going there tomorrow" I asked.
"Well Dennis, you know Mr. Brown. We went to college together and have been friends' since" Andrew told me. I nodded and started eating the rest of my pizza. What an evening, first the dress and suddenly hugging my mom. I couldn't even remember what it felt like hugging anyone from my family besides my dad. The last person I hugged from my family was my dad. I looked up and noticed Elijah staring at me.
"Thanks for pizza, I will go to bed, goodnight" I quickly said and left to go to my room. I was only in my room for three minutes before Elijah sat on me bed and looked at me.
"I saw the tears in your eyes when we ate" he said.
"I don't know what you are talking about" I told him.
"What happened. Olivia you can tell me" he said and looked into my eyes.
"She was the first family member I've hugged since my dad. She abandoned us when I was a child" I told him. I started crying, he put his arms around me.
"That's okay to be sad about Oli" he told me.
"I know" I said. He stayed for a while and talked with me. I even noticed he hung up the phone when Mason called. It's like having a real brother.
