Chapter 4

~Matt

Her Love

"MATT! SET THE TABLE! AND USE THE NEW DISHES THIS TIME!" Blink shouted through the brick walls.

In our little cabin/cave we have brick walls that go from the ground of the cave to the ceiling, making little rooms. Currently, Blink is in the kitchen making dinner with Landyn. I'm in the living room, watching The Amazing Spiderman. We have a solar powered generator for our appliances hidden in a part of the cave where its sheltered, but sunlight still gets to its panels. My mom and dad were scientists, so we have several of these stratigically placed in areas like what I just described.

"Okay Blink." I called. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed the dishes and sliverware, feeling my heart clench when I see Landyn's arm around Blink's waist.

'Jealousy.' I thought.

Of course I was jealous! I've loved Blink ever since we were little. Landyn's only been here a week, but he seems to have stolen her heart already.

"So, what's for dinner?" I said through clenched teeth. I set down three plates, three spoons, three forks, and three knives. One for each person.

"Well, Landyn made some chicken and rice soup, and I made fish, broccoli, fetticini alfredo, and some brownies for dessert!" She said, putting talapia on each person's plate. Blink was an excellent cook, and her best dish was fetticini alfredo. She made me a plate and handed it to me, kissing my cheek.

"Go eat. I can tell you still aren't feeling well." She told me. I've been sick with the flu for the past few days, but it's pretty much gone. I'm still a little weak though.

I walked to the table and sat in my chair. I picked up my fork and started eating the fish.

"So, how's the art coming along?" Landyn asked.

I'm an artist, and I send in my art to the Buttons {with no return adress of course} for tribute. Blink takes meals to the orphange as tribute. We were discovered once, a few days before Landyn, and we promised to pay tribute if they let us stay Irises. The Jobs of the Buttons who found us were Shop Owner and the woman owns an Orphange. They told us to pay tribute with our talents. I told them I'm an artist and Blink's a great cook, and they told us to bring in meals for the kids and art for their shop.

"It's good. I mean, I still have several sketches to make before Friday." I told him, and began eating the other food on my plate. Blink sat down and started eating. I looked at her through the corner of my eye. She was wearing a cute little apron with swans on it that fit her like a dress that tied in the back with a blue ribbon.

"What are you making for the kids this week, Blink?" I asked. She smiled at me.

"Well, Landyn is gonna teach me to make the soup and I'll take that!" She chirped.

"That's great!" I said, then started coughing. She patted my hand and helped me up, leading me into our bedroom.

"Landyn, can you clean up in here?" Blink asked as we walked out of the kitchen.

"Sure thing Blink!" He called.

"Sorry. I know I'm taking up so much time." I apologized between coughs. She steered me into our room and pulled back the covers, setting the nice pillows on the chest at the end of the bed. I crawled into the bed and under the covers. She sat on the edge of the bed and but her small hand on my forhead, gently pushing my hair away.

"Oh. You have a fever. Matt, I'll be right back. I'm going to go get the medicine." She said leaving the room. I looked over at my bedside table. I opened the top drawer and got the sketch book at the bottom. I opened it and looked at all the sketches of Blink. I heard her coming back, and I shoved the book under my pillow. Her fragile form stood in the doorway.

"Yes Landyn, you can change the movie." She was saying. She turned around and smiled at me. In her arms she held a blanket, medicine, and a wet rag. She sat on the edge of the bad again and threw the blanket over me.

"Keep that on you. I know you're cold, you are shivering like crazy." Blink said, laying the cold rag on my head.

"Thanks Blink." I smiled.

"Don't thank me. You'd do the same for me!" She said. "Now open wide!" She chirped, giving me the medicine.

"Ew, gross." I said sticking my tounge out. Blink laughed.

"Go to sleep, Matt. You'll be better in no time." She whispered, kissing.my cheek. She clicked the lamp off, and smiled,as she closed the curtains that served as a door.

She came back 15 minutes later, to see me struggling to sleep. She sat down on the edge of the bed again.

"Can't sleep?" She asked, smiling softly as she patted my hand.

"Nope." I said shaking my head. She laughed and kept her hand on my hand before humming, and then she started singing.

And I fell asleep to her beautiful voice.

"Because You're My Wonderwall."
