I've spent most of my life wishing for something that would set me apart from others, make me different but in a good way. I always wanted people to look up to me and inspire to be like me.
When I was younger I would look up at the night sky and wonder what was out there for me. What sets me apart from the millions of other people on this earth. I was fascinated by the stars and space but most of all animals. But one animal in particular the wolf.
I used to dream about being a wolf and getting away from everything in my life and just being free. Like the wolves, they are the perfect symbol of freedom. They have no worries like we do.
I wanted that freedom, no I needed that freedom in my life, at any cost. Nothing would stop me from being free. One day I got my wish of being different and being free.
I was born and raised in the country, I hunt daily out in the woods alone, so I would always feel like I was one with the forest.
It was a warm summer day, I was doing my usual rounds through the woods that surrounds my home on the mountain.
I stopped by the river to get a drink before heading back home. When I heard a twig snap across the river, I looked up to see a huge grey wolf looking me in the eyes 50 feet away. I didn't even reach for my gun, I was too distracted by the eyes of the wolf to move.
They were like a deep river blue with ice coming in from all directions. They were beautiful, no words could truly describe them.
It was weird I was not scared of it, I knew it wouldn't hurt me. Maybe it was because it hadn't attacked yet. All I knew was I felt safe being near this giant of a wolf.
There was a howl far off and the grey wolf turned and looked back one more time before disappearing into the brush.
As the last bit of grey disappeared into the sea of green It was like I snapped out of a trance. I grabbed my gun and headed towards home. But the whole way I thought of nothing but the wolf, and those eyes that sent shivers down my spine.
I thought I'd tell my father about seeing the wolf as I say my house coming in view.
" father" I said walking into the garage where my dad spent most of his time.
" what is it Jerika did you get a deer?" my father asked as I walked in.
" no I saw a wolf, it was big and had really beautiful grey fur and blue eyes." I said putting the gun back on the gun rack.
" that's impossible there are no wolves around here just coyotes" he said fiddling with something while he ran one hand through his graying black hair.
" well I'm almost sure I saw a wolf" I told him taking a beer from the mini fridge in the corner.
" maybe the heat is making your eyes play tricks on you" he said with a smirk throwing a balled up piece of paper at me.
" maybe" I said walking out of the garage and into the house.
My mom was in the kitchen and when I walked in she handed me a sandwich.
" how was the hunt get anything good?" she asked as I sat at the table.
" never got a thing but I saw a wolf, well I think I did, dad thinks its just the heat making my mind play tricks" I said taking a bite of the BLT.
" oh we'll I doubt it was a wolf it's rare to see one up here these days" she said washing the plate I just finished eating off of.
" yeah I guess" I said getting up and making my way to my room on the second floor.
