"He said what?" Sehun couldn't believe what his best friend told him while they studied together in the kitchen, in front of a pile of books and notebooks in front of them on the table.
"Yeah, I couldn't believe it either," Jongin said, "I thought I was dreaming."
Sehun opened his mouth in shock, studying Jongin's serious face to suspect he was joking.
"You're actually serious. Your hot professor made a bet to date you if you get an A on the quiz?"
Jongin brushed his hair back, sighing. "What does this mean, Sehun? Does that actually mean I get to score with this guy, or is he just bluffing? Does he mean a serious relationship with him?"
"You do know he can lose his job for dating a student, right? He is pretty much risking it all for you." Sehun reassured Jongin. "You lucky bastard, but at the same time I'm worried what is gonna happen."
"Yeah." Jongin trailed off, highlighting a few sentences in his book. "This means I have to actually study. I am not sure if I can get a B in this class, to be frank with you."
"Hey, no. That is quitter talk. The more you study, the closer you get to home base with Professor Kim."
"Well, of course, I'm going to try. We will see what happens on Friday. I only have a few days to do this, but so far I remember this chapter and everything about it. So I'm not completely worried. Just wondering if he was actually serious."
Sehun shrugged, "Just be careful, Jongin."
After a few days of studying, Friday was finally here. Nervousness kept his heartbeat skipping and his palms sweaty. It's just a pop quiz. Take deep breaths, he consoled himself. Walking across campus, he got a text alert from Sehun.
Good luck. Tell me everything when you are back.
Jongin entered the classroom with others, and the professor entered the auditorium a few moments after class started.
"As you all know..." Mr. Kim set his messenger bag on the table to open his binder and a stack of the quiz, "There is a pop quiz today. We will be starting that before moving on to the next lesson. Don't worry, the quizzes won't be a serious impact on your grade. However, if you don't come to class on Fridays you won't be able to make it up and you'll get a zero. That will make a difference. So it is your responsibility." He starts to walk towards Jongin, who was in the first row of the class and hands him the stack of paper. Jongin saw the smirk on his face as they made quick eye contact, not long enough for others to notice. Jongin took a paper and passed the rest of the stack to the classmate in front of him, and started to look at the ten questions on the paper.
"You have ten minutes to answer ten questions. So I hope you all have been paying attention. Good luck." Mr. Kim sat back at his desk, pulling out his laptop to set up the PowerPoint for the next lectures.
Jongin sighed with relief as it was a multiple choice quiz, and he was confident that he already knew the answers. With his mechanical pencil, he started to work on the answers, circling his decisions, then going over them for a second and third round. Jongin smirked and his confidence radiated through him as he got up to return his finished paper in less than two minutes.
Mr. Kim stopped setting up and raised his eyebrow at him.
"Done already?"
"Yes, Mr. Kim."
He took the paper and then scanned across it. Then he looked back up at him with his spectacles.
"Are you sure?" he hummed.
"Yeah," Jongin answered, his hands in his pockets. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"You missed two."
Jongin's soul felt as if it shattered, and he sighed in disappointment. "How?"
Mr. Kim placed the paper face down on his desk, clicking his tongue in disapproval. "After class, Jongin"
Jongin puffed his cheeks, lowering his head in defeat as he sat back in his desk, hiding his face in his book, pretending to read. That's a B, which means he won't get to score with his hot professor. He was sure the answers were the right ones. I guess the confidence got to his head.
After ten minutes, the class was finished and Mr. Kim said, "Okay, times up. I guess everyone is done. Anyone who isn't finished, return it anyway. A few points are better than no points. Good job on your first quiz. Now that wasn't so bad, was it?"
Mr. Kim opened his PowerPoint and the screen flashed on the headboard. "Chapter Two: Criminal Minds."
"Today we will be talking about the psychology of criminals and judicial reasoning behind criminal acts and behaviors."
Jongin stopped beating himself up and started to pay attention to the slides in the lesson. After the lesson, everyone began to grab their backpacks and scramble their things together to leave quickly. Jongin waited for everyone to leave before approaching Mr. Kim when they were finally alone again.
"Not now," Mr. Kim said, "in my office. Same time. There is somewhere I need to be right now." Mr. Kim grabbed his things and walked passed Jongin, adjusting the glasses up on the bridge of his nose. Jongin sighed, following behind him out of the classroom and sat on the bench under the tree. He buried his head in his hands, groaning. "At least I didn't fail," he told himself, hoping it would make him feel better. Now he wanted to know what Mr. Kim had in store for him in the next hour.
