Eventually, the music had faded into a barely audible thump amidst a soundtrack of stiff led yawns and satisfied sighs. You were sat with Dan in an armchair to the side of the room- so much for a good party. You jumped off of his lap and pulled his arm, stealing him from the comfortable depths of the chair. "Hotel Bound!" declared Dan. Oh yes- hotels. They weren't your favourite places in the world because they deprived you of any sleep that may have come to your dreary eyes. "C'mon, we better hurry before it shuts" You took his hand and walked out the quaint building after saying thank you to the hosts.

You walked along the cobbled streets of Leeds and shivered against the wind. "Do you need my hoodie?" Asked Dan, seemingly ignorant to the bite of the bitter wind. You nodded at his question and he stopped in the road to take off his wolf hoodie. "Thanks. Are you sure you're not going to be cold?" You asked him, now hesitant in case he needed it more than you. He shrugged his shoulders at your question and instead took your hand. "I'll be fine. We're almost there anyway. I genuinely can't wait to get my head down and finally get some rest."

Your mind wandered with the darkness again. These mindless attacks against everything you knew were triggered by things- in this case, it was the word 'rest'.

You lay still in your sleep but thoughts of sleep could not mother the visions of darkness from you. Screams from downstairs ran relays around your mind. You could do nothing but sit in the silence as it echoed around your empty room the loudest. Here it came, the drumming of your heart against your chest becoming ever present in the still of the night. What you wouldn't do to be able to run; run free of everything that encased you in this world of horror. Thud. Thud. Thud. You couldn't slow your breathing as you heard footsteps sneaking up the stairs, the screams of the lower floor now mere whimpers that were to be lost to silence.                                                                                                                              You heard the soft brush of feet on the carpeted landing and then nothing. Then came the audible gasps for air outside you door- it was coming- coming for you again. Like a deadly assassin stood among the darkness and quiet of the night, you the soft click of a door as it swung open...

"Thank fuck that it's still open! Just in time by the looks of it," Dan interrupted your scattered thoughts. 'Yeah, just in time' you thought to yourself. He let go of your hand and left it dangling by your side whilst he opened the door for you. Just in that moment, you felt vulnerable again but all thoughts of hopelessness were strangled by the warm touch of Dan's arm around your waist, pulling you in towards the light and warmth of the hotel. "Thanks! Do you think you can make it up the stairs without falling asleep?" You giggled at him as eyes fought to stay open. Dan scrunched his nose up and stuck his tongue out at you- he was still a child. You both nodded your goodnights to the figure behind the reception walked towards the stairs, barely having the energy to lift your feet from the ground.                                                                                                                                                                                         Finally, the two of your arrived at your room and you stuffed your hand in your pocket, fumbling around for the key that would unlock sleep. Your fingers clasped the cold steel and dug it into the hole, turning it and stumbling forwards into the room as the door swung open. "Finally!" Dan said enthusiastically as you closed the door behind him. You turned to face him and saw that he was in his boxers, ready for bed. "Oh, I'm sorry! Do you want me to...?" His voice trailed off shyly and he began reaching for his trousers. "No! Don't be silly... it's just you. I mean, it's nothing that I don't want to see. Oh no. I mean I'm sure I'll be seeing it more often. Oh fuck. What I meant to say is-" Dan's laughter interjected your rambling and he wandered over to you, taking you in his arms. He didn't say anything but placed a light kiss on your trembling lips. You looked into his deep blue eyes and wrapped your arms around his neck, standing on your tiptoes so you could return the kiss. But this time, you both lingered, not wanting to stray from your positions- not wanting to leave each other. Dan smiled into the kiss and lowered himself, taking your legs and wrapping them around his waist. He walked over to the bed, the two of you still lost in your kiss and placed you gently down. Breaking off from this act of passion, you looked up at him above you and whispered "I thought you were tired..." He came to kiss you but diverted his attention to your neck, leaving a trail of wet kisses as he worked his way around it. "I'd stay up for a thousand years if it meant that I got to be with you for every second of it."
