Jay’s POV
I’ve been awake for about a half hour now, the hangover getting the best of me. My head is spinning and my stomach is beginning to bitch and moan. Mornings like these, I wasn’t sure if I was hungry or I just wanted to puke. Other than that, I just didn’t want to move when Nathan is wrapped peacefully in my arms. I trailed small kisses on his arm, hearing him sigh softly and I grinned but he didn’t move or wake. “Morning, love.” I whispered, softly.
I returned to my thoughts, thinking back of how long I kept my feelings for Nathan a secret and how I was surprised when he said he returned them. It was around the time when we formed the band that I knew I liked him and whenever I was around Nathan, I was nervous and I was never sure of what to say. As we became more noticed and the more we became close, I knew that I couldn’t tell him my feelings. If I had when we were still new to the music industry (whether he did return my feelings or not) it would ruin our chances and it would break the band up. So I kept my mouth shut until last night. Last night that was a chance that I took for many reasons, that was pure luck.
I carefully reached over and grabbed my phone from the nightstand. As if on cue, it began to ring and I pressed the answer button before it disturbed Nathan. I pressed it against my ear and I rolled my eyes when I heard who it was. “What is it, Niall?”
“I’m outside, open the door.” He said before hanging up.
I sighed and looked back at Nathan. I brushed his fringe from his eyes and kissed his nose. I slowly pulled my arm from under him and sat up. Wow, he was knocked out. After the party had died down last night, Nathan and I were a bit too tipsy for us to drive (obviously) or walk home. So Danielle, Liam’s girlfriend, had been nice enough to drive us to my place. We had been exhausted but we couldn’t fall asleep, our brains buzzing from the party. So we laid there for maybe about an hour, talking and exchanging small kisses.
I grab a shirt from the floor and put it on, grabbing my phone as well and headed downstairs. I looked at the time and sighed bitterly. I only had five hours of sleep. I rubbed my eyes and yawned loudly as I opened the door. “What are you doing?” I asked the blonde, noting the dark circles around his eyes and the same clothing he was wearing last night. “Did you even go home yet?”
“No.” He said as he brushed past me, heading straight to the kitchen. I closed the door and followed him. I sat down on the chair, watching him as he dig around the cabinets and fridge. Too bad, there was hardly anything. I didn’t have time to shop for groceries since the tour ended.
Finally he dealt with making a sandwich and sat down beside me. I waited as he quickly finished it and chug his glass of orange juice. I decided against making myself a sandwich because my stomach probably wouldn’t agree with it so I stayed with my glass of water Niall had poured so kindly for me. “Where did you run off to last night?”
He stared at his empty glass and I pictured the over the top comedies that when a person sings horribly, breaks mirrors and glass with their voice. With Niall I pictured it the other way around, the face he was making made me cringe back, half expecting the cup to explode. “I don’t know why I’m so angry about it.”
“About what?”
He sucked in his teeth and pulled at his hair. “I told Liam how I feel about him and it just went downhill.” I lowered my eyes and bit my bottom lip. He went on saying that Liam probably hated him and would never talk to him ever again, which could cause the band to break up. I didn’t say anything as I chewed my bottom lip. I felt a hand shake my arm. I looked up, Niall was staring at me. “Are you even listening?”
I cleared my throat and nodded. “Yes, I am.”
“God,” He said, burying his face in his hands. “That was such a stupid plan. I never should have gone along with it. Liam loves Danielle; they are fucking perfect for each other. It’s going to be so weird now; I ruined everything by telling him.”
I felt bad, one for Liam denying Niall and two, because my part of the plan had worked. I couldn’t tell him Nathan was upstairs sleeping in my room while he was feeling angry about what happened. Besides Liam would never let anything ruin their friendship, he was the type of guy to fix problems while Niall was the type to overthink and exaggerate big or small problems. “Don’t think of the worst, I know you regret it now but later on you’ll know it was the right decision to make. Liam does love Danielle but he would never let this ruin your friendship with him. So you’ll probably never have a chance with Liam but there are other guys.”
“You’re horrible.” He whined.
“How am I horrible?” My voice was calm and collected. Niall was being a baby and I was trying to make him see that. He will understand that he will get over it and Liam wasn’t the one. “I’m telling you the truth. I know that sucks but it is.”
Niall looked up and I did too, we both watched Nathan as he came in the room and went to the fridge, pouring himself a cup of juice. Niall slapped the backside of my head. “Thanks a lot.” He said, getting up from his seat and heading for the front door.
“Niall, come on.” I said, following him. He stopped turning back to me.
“No, it’s fine.” He muttered, angrily. “You get the guy and I’m left with nothing.”
“Niall,” Nathan came up from behind me. He walked over to Niall and wrapped an arm around him. “What’s wrong?”
“Piss off, Nath.” He spat, reaching for the door handle.
“He’s pissed because Liam had rejected him last night.”
Nathan’s eyes softened and pulled Niall into a hug. “It’s going to be okay.”
Niall pushed him away. “I should have never agreed to the stupid plan.”
“What plan?” Nathan asked, looking back and forth at me and Niall.
I sighed. “Niall and I made a plan to tell you and Liam how we feel. I told you my feelings and Niall told Liam his feelings at the same time. My part of the plan worked and Niall’s didn’t.”
“Niall,” Nathan turned back to Niall who was already stepping out. “Come on, let’s talk.”
“I’d rather not.” He said, slamming the door behind him.
Nathan turned toward me and I reached over to pull him into a hug. “He’s going to be okay.” I mumbled against his hair. I kissed the crown part of his head and rubbed his back.
“I just don’t understand.”
“What?”
“Liam’s been telling me he wants to break up with Danielle.”
I looked down at him and frowned. “Really?”
He nodded but we were interrupted by the phone. I rushed over and answered it. “Hello?”
“Jay?” It was Jane, our band manager. “You’re going to hate me.”
“What?”
“We need you at the studio; you and the others have an interview.”
I groaned. “I thought we were finished with those for a while.”
“Management, you know.”
“Okay.” I said before hanging out. I turned back to Nathan who smiled softly. “We have an interview.”
His face dropped and groaned. “Fine, let’s get ready.”
A/N: i know Jane isnt the wanted's main manager now, but i miss her in wanted wednesdays.
