The Fox Test Subject (OC X Portal)

Part 1: Momma Caroline

Nora moaned as she woke up slowly. She had been sleeping for hours. She got out of bed, rubbed her eyes, and walked to the door. She jumped up and grabbed the knob, turning it and opening the door. She walked to Caroline's room. She knocked on the door and Caroline opened it to see Nora standing there in her favourite pink shirt and dark jeans.

Nora- "Momma, you slept in."

Caroline- "Oh my, hour right! Thank you baby, I'll be out in a minute."

Nora loved Caroline. Caroline was Nora's adopted mother, and spent as much time as she could with her adopted child. Caroline emerged from her room ten minutes later, got Nora, put her in the car and drove to work. She got Nora a bite to eat on the way. Nora loved going to work with Caroline, and she was allowed to go wherever Caroline was at work, meaning she never had to be without her momma.

Caroline parked the car outside of the Aperture Science building. She helped Nora out of the car and held her hand on the way inside, where the two were met by Cave Johnson, the head of Aperture and Caroline's boss.

Cave Johnson- "Caroline, your not a minute late. Come with me, read me my schedule."

He walked down the hallway. Nora and Caroline followed along.

Caroline- "Ok, you have a 9 o clock meeting with Dr Freeman and the head of Black Mesa...."

Cave Johnson- "Clear it"

Caroline- "...A 9:45 appointment with the scientists in charge of injecting people with Praying Mantis DNA...

Cave Johnson: "A great experiment, although now we have a bunch of mantis men."

Caroline- "...A 10:30 meeting with the people working on project GLaDOS. And lastly a 9:30 dinner with the president."

Cave Johnson: "And the test subjects?"

Caroline- "Two died of asbestos poisoning..."

Cave Johnson: "Forwards science by 600 years."

Caroline- "...Another was accidentally cut in half when he threw his portal gun through an emancipation grid."

Nora was slightly disturbed by these reports. She put her hands over her ears and blocked out the sound. You followed Caroline and Mr Johnson. While they were discussing prices and other things, you were left in a large empty room with Caroline on the other side of the door with Mr Johnson. There was many buttons and tubes. Nora walked over to one of the buttons and pressed it. A white and grey cube with Aperture Science printed on the side. Nora presses the button a bunch more times and a pile of blocks had amassed beneath the tube. Nora had an idea. She started taking the block one by one, stacking them into a little box castle. 

She noticed a large red button. She left her box fort and walked over to the button, it was a large, red square resting on the floor. Nora jumped on it and a large circular door opened, she stepped off and the door closed again.

Nora- "How do I keep you open?" 

She looked back to the button and tube and had an idea. She ran over to the button and pressed it, a block dropped out of the tube. She picked up the box and carried it over to the big red square, and placed it perfectly on the big red pressure plate. The door opened and she ran to see what was on the other side. It was a massive underground area with people and robots walking every which way, working on completing the unfinished rooms. 

Caroline opened the door and saw Nora looking out at the unfinished place in splendor. She ran over to the young Kitsune child and picked her up.

Nora- "Momma, what was that place?"

Caroline- "That's the new Enrichment Center."

Nora- "Cool! Can I visit?"

Caroline- "When it's finished."

She carried Nora back out of the room and out of the Aperture building. Nora rubbed her eyes and fell asleep on the way home, dreaming of doing science like Cave Johnson.
